Dear Mr. Ryals:
Terracon Consultants, Inc. (Terracon) is pleased to submit this Letter Report for monitoring well
abandonment activities conducted at the former Curt’s Kwik Stop site, located at 5945 NC
Highway 152, Mooresville in Rowan County, North Carolina (Figure 1). This letter report has
been prepared in general accordance with North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality
(NCDEQ), Underground Storage Tank (UST) Section Assessment Guidelines, dated January 19,
2021, and Task Authorization No. 04, approved on February 21, 2023.
Terracon personnel mobilized to the site on March 17, 2023, to oversee well abandonment
activities, locate monitoring wells, measure total well depths, and document pre-abandonment
conditions for monitoring wells MW-1, MW-2, MW-3, MW-4, MW-5, MW-6, MW-7, MW-8, and
MW-9. Monitoring well construction information and groundwater elevation data is provided in
Table 1. Locations of the monitoring wells and relative site features are illustrated on Figure
1. Field notes and photographs from site activities are included in Appendix A.
Environmental Drilling and Probing Services (EDPS), a North Carolina Certified drilling
contractor, completed the monitoring well abandonment activities. The monitoring wells were
abandoned with neat cement grout, tremie-piped into the well casing from the bottom of the
well to the land surface. Well abandonment records, provided by EDPS, are included in
Appendix B.
