Commercial Pressure Switches
Class 9013, Type F and Type G-Description
The Class 9013 Type F line of pressure switches are UL Listed and CSA Certified as commercial control
equipment. The Class 9013 Type G line of pressure switches are UL Listed and CSA Certified as
commercial/light industrial control equipment.
The Type FHG -PUMPTROL® Compressor Pressure Switch is used to control electrically driven air
compressors and is diaphragm actuated and has contacts that open on rising pressure.

Compressor Pressure Switch
The Type FSG, FYG, FRG -PUMPTROL®Water Pump Pressure Switches are used to control
electrically driven water pumps and have the following features:
• The Type FSG is the standard water pump switch, suitable for all types of pumps: jets, submersible,
reciprocating, etc.
• The Type FYG is designed to meet higher horsepower and pressure requirements.
• The Type FRG is reverse acting: the contacts open on falling pressure.
• All are diaphragm actuated.

Water Pump Pressure Switch
The Type G -PUMPTROL® Commercial/Light Industrial Pressure Switch is used to control electrically
driven water pumps and air compressors. It has higher electrical ratings for direct control of motors in
pump and compressor applications. The Type G switch is diaphragm actuated and has contacts that
open on rising pressure.

Attached are two instructions for setting refill and discharge timers on pneumatic controllers for
QED pump operation. Instructions are setup for QED's L360 controller but are also applicable
for your model C 100 controller. Pumping conditions such as depth of the pump and the tlow
of liquid into the well affect the performance of the pump.
1) Set pressure regulator to maximum pressure setting.
2) Set initial timer settings ( 1-3 seconds for di scharge and refill for over l 5 seconds)
3) Measure volume of water discharged in one cycle. This is to insure that your pump is
getting a full pump volume and that there is no problem occurring with the pump. Pump
stoke volume for the SL6000 pump is 1.3 gallons. Longer refill time may be required to
completely fill the pump. · ~-~·
4) Adjust the discharge and then the refill timers as described on the attached instructions.
We hope this information is helpful to el.iminate excess air in the discharge and to minim.ize iron
oxidation.

Pulse PumpTM Pneumatic Pumping System
Flow rate optimization
Pu lse Pump refill and discharge cycle times can be adjusted to deliver the maximum possible
flow rates from your system. Pumping conditions, such as the depth of the pump or the flow
rate of liquid into the well. affect the perlormance of the pump. Adjustable cycle timers on the
Pu lse Pump controller let you tune the system to your site. Three simple steps help you opti•
mize the flow rate.
1. vv th tt"1e purnp operating, set the refill time long (about 15 seconds). Set the d ischarge
time st1o ri (1 second for wells sr,allower than 50 feet, 3 seconds for wells 50 to 100 feet, and 5
seconds for wells deeper than 100 feet). Liquid should begin to flow through the discharge line
after 5-15 cycles of pumping, depending on H1e depth of the well. Measure the li quid dis-
charr1ed during one cycle. The volume o1 H1e liquid will be less than the internal volume capac·
ity of H1e pump (see Table for volume capacity of your pump).
2. Increase the discharge time gr-adually, in i /2-second increments, letting the pump go
through its cycle 3-5 times after each adjustment. Repeat until you see air bubbles coming
H1 roug h the discharge line. Then decrease Hie discharge time slightly to eliminate air bubbles.

Discharge cycle optimization is complete .
Note: If air and water begin to shoot out hard, the discharge cycle time is too long. Repeat
step 2 using shorter increment adjustments (i.e. 1/4 second). Bubbles in the discharge line
indicate displacement of liquid in the pump by compressed air from the air source, which
means you get less than maximum flow rate.
3. Decrease the refill time gradually, in 1-second increments, and let the pump cycle 3-5 times
after each adjustment. Repeat until you see air bubbles coming through the discharge line.
Now, increase the refill time slightly to eliminate the bubbles. The amount of liquid discharged
per cycle should stil l be close to the internal volume capacity of the pump. Refill cycle optimi-
zation is complete.
Note: If a ir and water begin to shoot out hard, the refi ll cycle time is too short Set the re fill
time long again, and repeat step 3, using shorter time increments. Air in the dischar·qe line
means that liquid is d ischarged from the purnp before it is completely filled -

WARNING
DO NOT PLACE PLASTIC BOWL UNIT IN SERVICE
WITHOUT METAL BOWL GUARD INSTALLED
Plastic bowl units are sold only with metal bowl guards. To minimize the danger of flying fragments in the
event of plastic bowl failure. the metal bowl guards should not be removed. If the unit is in service without
the metal bowl guard installed, manufacturer's warranties are void, and the manufacturer assumes no
responsibility for any resulting loss.
IF UNIT HAS BEEN IN SERVICE AND DOES NOT HAVE A METAL BOWL GUARD, ORDER ONE
AND INSTALL ONE BEFORE PLACING UNIT BACK IN SERVICE ..
For inlormation on materials harmful to plastic bowls. contact a Mobay Chemical or General Electric ottice lor
more inlormation regarding materia~ that will attack polycarbonate plastic.
CAUTION
Certain compressor oils. chemicals. household cleaners. solvents. paints and fumes will attack plastic
bowls and can cause bowl failure. Do not use near these materials. When bowl becomes dirty replace
bowl or wipe only with clean. dry cloth. Reinstall metal bowl guard or buy and install a metal bowl guard.
Immediately replace any crazed, cracked. damaged or deteriorated plastic bowl with a metal bowl or a new
plastic bowl and metal bowl guard.
EXCEPT as otherwise specified by the manufacturer. this unit is specifically designed for compressed
air service. and use with any other fluid (liquid or gas) is a misapplication. For example. use with or
injection of certain hazardous liquids or gases in the system (such as alcohol or liquid petroleum gas)
could be harmlul to the unit or result in a combustible condition or hazardous external leakage.
Manufacturer's warranties are void in the event of misapplication, and manufacturer assumes no
responsibility for any resulting loss. Belore using with fluids other than air, or for non· industrial
applications. or for life.support systems consult manufacturer for written approval.
INSTALLATION
1. Refer to the above warning.
2. Install as close as possible to point where air is being used.
3.lnstall the unit with the air flowing through the body in the direction indicated
by arrow.
4. Install the same pipe-size unit as the pipeline in use. Avoid using fittings.
couplings, etc., that restrict air flow.
5. Do not install this unit on any application where the pressure drop will
exceed 20 psi.
6.A drain line with 1/8" NPT connection may be attached to the drain
port if desired. Drain line should be 1/4" tubing or larger, as short as
possible, and crimp-free.
?.Maximum inlet pressure and operating temperature ratings are:
transparent plastic bowls. 150 psig (10 bar) and 125°F (52°C);
metal bowls, 250 psig (17 bar) and 175°F (79°C).
8. Install unit in a vertical position.
MAINTENANCE
1. TO CLEAN BOWL OR REPLACE FILTER ELEMENT:
a. Depressurize unit.
b. Inspect and replace crazed, cracked, damaged or deteriorated
seals and bowls with original manufacturer's approved seals and
bowls.
c. IF BOWL BECOMES DIRTY, replace it or clean it by wiping it with a soft
dry cloth.
2. IF UNIT HAS RIGID (FELT) FILTER ELEMENT, replace or clean it
periodically. Remove element and tap it on a hard surface. Use an air gun to
blow out residual dirt.
3. IF UNIT HAS A OIL REMOVING CLOTH FILTER ELEMENT, replace it with
a new one every six months, or sooner if it becomes dirty or causes
pressure drop of 10 psi (0,7 bar) or more at rated flow.
4. IF METAL BOWL HAS A MANUAL PETCOCK, drain bowl at least once per
work shift.
5. IF BOWL HAS AN AUTOMATIC MECHANICAL DRAIN, clean screen
around drain seat whenever elements is cleaned or changed. Remove
adapter nut. Remove drain assembly. Use an air gun to blow dirt out of
screen and valve assembly.
6. BEFORE PLACING UNIT IN SERVICE, reinstall bowl and bowl
guard and lock them securely in place.

INSTALLATION
1. Refer to warning.
2. Purge downstream air line of oil.
3. Install as close as possible to where regulated air is being used.
4.lnstall the unit with the air flowing in the direction indicated by
the arrow on the body.
5.A drain line with 1/8" NPT connection may be attached to drain port if
desired. Drain line should be 1/4' tubing or larger, as short as
possible, and crimp free.
6. Maximum inlet pressure and operating temperature ratings are:
transparent plastic bowls, 150 psig (10,3 bar) and 125'F (52'C);
metal bowls, 150 psig (10,3 bar) and 150'F (66'C).

A. PREF IL TER -It is recommended that a Wilkerson 5-micron-rated
prefilter be installed upstream from the coalesce, filter to prolong
element life.
B. AIR DRYER -(Refrigerative or Twin Tower). An air dryer is generally
preferred for optimum results, but is optional.
C. COALESCER FILTER -Do not touch the filter element once it has
been put into service; the slightest pressure on the outer foam cover
can easily damage it once it has been used.
D. AC PAK -The Type D element is an adsorption type for removing oil
vapors. Oil-associated odors, whether petroleum base or synthetic
base, and nearly 100% of any removing solid contaminants are
removed.
~ E. DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE INDICATOR -Maximum recommended
pressure drop across coalesce, filters is 7 psi (0,5 bar). This can be
monitored by installing a Wilkerson differential pressure indicator.
F. VALVE - Do not use a valve or shutoff device in conjunction with a coalesce,
filter that will allow a momentary or surge pressure drop greater than 50 psi
(3,4 bar). To avoid high surges which can either ruin the element or
momentarily allow downstream contamination, use a slow-opening type
valve.
MAINTENANCE
1. The element operates effectively when it is saturated. The element's useful
life will end only when the resistance to flow becomes too high or the
maximum permissible pressure is reached. The element cannot be cleaned
or reused and must be replaced at the end of its useful life.

2.IF THE UNIT HAS A MANUAL DRAIN, drain the unit once every 8 hours.
IF UNIT IS EQUIPPED WITH AN AUTOMATI C MECHANICAL DRAIN, clean
the screen around the drain seat each time the element is cleaned or replace
it by removing the nut and removing the drain assembly. Clean screen by
blowing off with air blow gun.
3. When bowl becomes dirty, replace the bowl or clean by wiping with a
dry, clean doth.
4.Before placing the unit in service, make sure that the bowl and bowl
guard are reinstalled, and securely locked in place.

IMPROVEMENTS TO LEAGIATE PUMPING AT WARREN COUNTY PCB LANDFILL
As you are aware, the State of North Carolina must upgrade the leachate collection system at the
PCB Landfill in Warren County to address a Notice of Non-Compliance (Docket Number TSCA-4-
97-11844) from EPA Region IV. The original NON required action by August 28, 1998. EPA
granted a six-month extension until February 28, 1999 to complete the work. In order to comply
with the notice and avoid a violation, the State needs to have a new leachate pump in place and
operating by the 281h.
Over the past few days, Ed, Larry, and Matt along with you and I have reviewed several options
for the upgrade. Our selected option includes purchasing a new pneumatic slider pump and
associated equipment. The pump will be insened in the 6" sloped riser from the sump and is
designed to deliver up to 9.5 gpm at 200 ft of head. The pump is designed for this specific service
and is constructed of materials that will ensure that it not only meets our immediate need to have a
system in by the end of next week, but will also serve well until the detoxification is underway. A
controller will also be purchased which will tum the pump on and off in response to changes in level
in the sump. This is needed to comply with EPA's requirement in the NON that the system be
"designed to operate on a more-or-less continuous basis. Because this is a pneumatic pump, an air
compressor and dryer will be needed to supply air to run the unit and electricity will be needed to run
the compressor.
At present the electricity at the landfill stops at the edge of the landfill and is approximately 1000
ft from the leachate pumping and treatment area. Having power lines run to the area will require
more time than the State has to complete the upgrade. As an alternative, the group has proposed
that the compressor be located near the existing power supply and that an air supply line be run to
the pump at the leachate pumping and treatment area. A small building (8' x 8') would be needed to
protect the compressor from environmental conditions and from theft. To complete the project, a
flowmeter would also be added to monitor the amount of leachate removed from the landfill.
Items for this project that exceed $750 are the pump and air supply lines for the compressor.
These items are listed in Table 1. Table 2 lists items less that $750. Three written estimates for the
pump are also attached. Please review this information and call me if there are any questions.

A 1 1/2 % r month service charge shall be assessed Buyer on any amount due and not paid within thirty days of
due date, nd Buyer assumes and agrees to pay same if assessed. All collection or attorney's and/or court costs
incurred y EC in collecting the account which is not paid in accordance with the agreed payment terms shall
be borne y Buyer.
2. Dut and Taxes
The price quoted herein shall be increased without notice by the amount of any tax or duty of any kind levied or
proposed under present or future laws either by any federal, state, municipal, or other governmental authority
upon the goods or upon EC by reason of the performance of this order. Sales taxes are not included unless
seated otherwise.
3. Warranty
For a period of 12 months from the date of shipment EC warran.ts that the equipment covered by tliis order shall
be free of defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service, and when properly installed. EC
agrees to repair or replace F .0. B. point of shipment, such equipment, or any part thereof, previously furnished
by EC as actually found by EC after inspection as defective, provided: (a) said equipment has been properly in-
stalled, operated and maintained by Buyer in accordance with recommendations, and (b) Buyet notifies EC in
writing as soon as any such defect becomes apparent. Any claim by Buyer with reference to the equipment sold
hereunder for any cause shall be deemed waived by Buyer unless submitted to EC in writing within 15 days
from the date Buyer discovered or should have discovered, any claimed breach. Unless agreed to the contrary
by EC in writing, any work done, material furnished, repairs or designs made by others, shall void the
warranty.
EC shall not be liable for incidental or consequential losses, damages or expenses, directly or indirectly aris-
ing from the sale, handling or use of 1he equipment, or from any other cause relating thereco, and EC's liability
htreunder in any case is expressly limited to the replacement (in the form originally shipped) of equipment or
any part thereof, not complying with this order, or, ac EC's election, ro the repayment of. or crediting buyer
with an amount equal to the purchase price of such equipment, whether such cw.ims are for breach or warranty
or negligence.
THIS WARRANTY IS EXPRESSLY MADE IN LlEU OF ANY AND ALL OTHER WARRANTIES
EXPRESS OR IMPLIED INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCI-lANT ABILITY AND FITNESS
4. Liability
EC shall not be liable for any losses, damages, or delays due to or caused by transportation difficulties, fire,
labor shortage, strike or other labor disputes, civil or militalj' authority, insurrection, riot, war, accident, shor-
tage of labor or material, flood, ston:n, flotation of equipment, or any other cause or circumstance, whether like
or unlike the foregoing, beyond EC's reasonable control or for any delays due to failure of Buyer to furnish
and/or approve technical data, drawings, etc. Acceptallce of equipment on delivery shall constitute a waiver of
any claims for losses or damages due to delay, whether or not excused by the foregoing, and a waiver of the
right to revo.ke such acceptance for any reason. Further, under no circumstances shall EC be Uable for any li-
quidated, special or consequential damages or for any penalties, whether direct or indirect.
5. Indemnity
The Buyer expressly assumes and agrees to indemnity, defend and hold EC hannless from all liabilit.ies.
claims, demands and actions made by any person, firm or corporation, including employees, workmen, ser-
vants or agents of the Buyer and his subcontractors that may have been caused, or allectged to have been caus-
ed, directly or indirectly, by any act of omission or commission, negligent or otherwise, of the Buyer, its sub-
contractors, their employees, workmen, servants or agents, or of EC, its employees, workmen, servants or
agents, or by reason of the premises. EC's equipment shall be: considered as being under the sole custody and
control of the Buyer during the period of its use by Buyer, and should any person or persons in the employ of
EC be used to operate said equipment during the period of such use, such persons shall be deemed during such
period of oper.i.tion to be an employee or employees of Buyer.
6. Design
If working drawings are furnished by Buyer, EC may change details to conform to EC's standards of fabrica-
tion and conscniction. With respect to any enor or deficiency in any provision of the specifications, plans or
drawings furnished by Buyer, or any of its agents, Buyer shall indemnify and hold EC ham1less against any or
all clairns or losses , as~erted against or sustained by EC as a consequence of any such en-or or deficiency.

widths and lengths from those stated in EC's proposal or applicable specifications and drawings.
EC reserves the right to make changes in its design, construction or arrangement of equipment at its plant, or at
reasonable times at the place of installation, as in its sole judgement shall constit\Hc an improvement over
fom1er practice or otherwise benefit Buyer.
7. Changes or Delays
.If at any time the Buyer delays or interrupts the progress of the work, or causes changes to be made, or if there
is a lack of facilities or apparatus to be supplied by the Buyer, then the Buyer shall rt;imburse EC for any adl1i-
tlonal expenses resulting from such causes.
The Buyer agrees to pay EC for any extras in the fonn of labor and/or material to cover such e:1:.tra work as may
be incurred over and above the work necessary to execute nom1ally this order.
If Buyer refuses to accept shipment of equipment on the changed shipment date, EC reserves the right to assess
Buyer at the rate of two per cent (2 % ) per month a handling charge beginning two (2) weeks from said schedul-
ed shipment date until the date of actual shipment of the equipment to Buyer. This charge shall be in addition to
any !ale payment charge EC may assess.
8. Title
Del iveiy of goods by EC to common earner or trucker shall be deemed delivery to Buyer, and thereupon title to
such goods and the risk of loss or damage in transit shall be Buyer·s. Any claim by Buyer against EC for shor"
tage or damage occuring prior to such delivery shall be made in writing five (5) days after receipt of shipment
and accompanied by the original transportation bill signed by the carrier noting that the carrier received the
equipmem from EC in the condition claimed.
9. Cancellation
Equipment cannot be rctumed and this order once approved cannot be cancelled, without EC's prior written
consent , In case of cancellation, Buyer agrees to reimburse EC for all costs incurred plus a margin of 20 % . EC
reserves the right to cancel any order without further obligation thereunder and without notice to Buyer in the
eve.nt that EC's submittal drawings, if required, are not returned ro EC within sixty (60) days after receipt by
Buyer with approval noted or with appropriate notations for correction.
10. Del.Ivery to Site
Delivery by trucker or common carrier will be made to nearest points reasonably accessible by same as deter•
mined by the driver. Buyer will fumish and pay for necessary labor to unload and to store the goods. For EC's
information only, Buyer shall note loss or damage in shipment upon delivery ticket returned to EC.
11. Modincation
No condition. representation, or agreement altering, detracting from, or adding to the provisions of this order
shall be valid unless condition, representation, or agreement is in writing and approved by the Buyer and by an
authorized representative of EC.
12 . OSHA and other Codes
To the best of EC's knowledge and belief, equipment furnished by EC conforms with all applicable Occupa-
tional Safety and Health Standards promulgated punuant to the Occupational Safety and Health Act of I 970
and set forth in T itle 29, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 1910 (29 CFR 1910) at the ~ime of design.
Due to the probability of differing interpretations of the Occupational Safety and Health Standards between the
Department of Labor and EC, EC makes no warranty that its equipment conforms to the requirements of the
Occupational Safety and Health Act as may be interpreted and applied by the Occupational Safety and Health
Administration, Department of Labor.
Should Buyer Require compliance with any particular state or local code, Buyer must request the same of EC in
writing enclosing a copy of the specific code involved. Upon the receipt of the said code, EC will offer its in-
terpretation to meet that code. However, EC makes no warranty that its equipment will conform with the re-
quirements of the state or local code in question as said code may be interpreted and appUed by enforcement
personnel in the field .
13. General
A . In the event of conflict between the generaJ terms and conditions statM herein and the tenns and conditions
stated in the plans and specifications now or hereafter existing, or the terms and provisions of Buyers pur•
chase orlicr. these gener-aJ terms and conditions shall govern.
Buyer's signed acceptance of EC's proposal, purchase order or any other expression of acce.ptance shall be
deemed to be a written confirmation and acceptance of these genera.I tenns and conditions. Further, accep•
ta11ce of this order is expressly limited to its provisions and these generaJ terms and conditions. Conduct or
_i:."1erfom1ance by EC regarding the existence of a contract shaJI not constitute an acceptance of or assent to
any addi!ionaJ or different terms or provisions proposed by Buyer.
B. The validity, construction, and effect of this order and of these general tenns and conditions shall be govern-
ed by the laws of the State of N. C .
C . As used herein the term "EC" means "Eshelman Carolinas, Charlotte, N. C .", and the tenn "Buyer"
means the person or entity for whom che work in this order will be done. ·
D. Waiver by EC of any breach of these terms and conditions shall not be construed as a waiver of any ofoer
breach, and failure to exercise any right arising from any default hereunder shall not be deemed a waiver of
such right which may be exercised at any subsequent time. ·

A new angle on leacha.te, condensate, and cleanup pumping.
The increased availability of spe-
cial drilling equipment has
caused more landfills and cleanup
projects to appreciate the unique
advantages of low-angle (slanted or
horizontal) wells or risers where
conventional vertical wells are inef-
ficient or impossible to use.
Sloped landfill risers for leachate
and/or landfill gas allow wellhead
installations and other equipment to
be placed outside landfill cells, not in
the middle of them This protects
headers and other equipment a.rid
facilitates normal la..'idfil! operations.
Cleanup projects can also benefit.
Karrow water or product layers can
often be more efficiently intercepted
by a horizontal well. Inaccessible
contaminant plumes under buildings
or sensitive areas can be reached; the
technique is also a cost-cutting alter-
native to trenches for capturing wide-
spread floating layer,.
Howe\·er, slant/homontal wells are
useless without the right pumps -
and typical electric submersible or
pneumatic pumps don't operate effec-
tively in low-angle or horizontal
installations.
QED Slider™ pumps provide the
answer. They have proprietary angle-
independent valves to operate at any
orientation, and can deliver reliable
flow at rates up to 9.5 GPM/13,680
GPD in 5" and larger wells. They can
also be modified to fit 4" wells. They
are especially suited for tough landfill
duty, providing excellent resistance to
sediment clogging md solYent attack.

Basic control
Every QED c;ontroller-driven pneu-
matic pump system requires at least
one Pulse Sender4 module. The heart
of the system, the PuL~ Sender unit
continuously generates air
pressure/exhaust cycles. Pressure
regulator, output pressure gage, and
refill/ discharge timers allow easy
flow rate opt:im.i.zing.
One Pulse Sender module can run
one pump. or two pumps close
together. With accessory Well
:Master TM and Remote Well Operator
units, a Pulse Sender unit can cvcle
up to six pumps as far as 200 fe'et
away. (Note: nmning pumps in mul-
tiple remote wells, maximum pump
flow rates mav be reduced; consult
QED for specific guidelines.)

Level control (singfe well)
The L!,•el Mate™ controller turns
the Pulse Sender cycles on and off
automatically, responding l'O changes
in water level in the well or product
lev~ in floating layer inlets.
Level is measured via a bubbler
tube placed just below the desired liq-
uid level in the well or inlet. The pres-
sure needed to expel bubbles indicates
height of liquid above the end of the
tube ($1.lbmergence). The gage on the
I.375 InOdel displays the submergence
in inches.
One Level Mate unit can provide
on/ off control for up to six pumps,
with all puinps responding to level
changes in the d\osen well
Level control (multiple wells)
Well Master?M controllers are used
with a Pulse Se:nder module in multi-
ple well systems, where independent
on/ off level control is r~ for
more than one well.
Each Well Master unit controls one
pump, and has its own bubbler tube
to sense liquid level fluctuations in
that well Th.is makes it possible to
"fine-tune" pumping efficiency in sys-
~ with wells that differ significant-
ly in recovery rate.
Economical multi-well control
Remote Well Operators are used
with a Pulse Send.er unit (with or with-
out a Level Mate controller) to operate
pwnps at each well in multiple-well
systems. Remotes can also be used in
mixed systems for conti.nuous pump-
ing of some wells, with Well Master
on/ off level control for others.
Models for 2" and larger wells are
available; the 2" version has the pump
exhaust attached. for use above the
wellhead when there is no room
inside the casing for in-line exhaust
valves.

Recommended Oils -One Stage Compressor Units
Use a compressor oil such as SAE 20-20W SF motor oil. (Crankcase oil capacity is 16
fluid ounces.) Under extreme winter conditions use 10 weight oil. Multiviscosity oil,
1 0W30, will leave carbon deposits on critical components, reducing performance
and compressor life.
