After a recent inspection of the facility, there were a number of deficiencie s found. At the time of the inspection there was found to be an accumulation of leachate in the collection system. This level was obtained by removing the collection pipe and taking an actual measure of the fluid in the hole. This was found to be 42 feet. The collection pipe is sloping at a rate of 1 foot drop per 3 feet of horizontal length. Thus, using trigonometry the vertical head was calculated to be 13.28 feet. Using this value the volume of leachate was calculated, (see charts). There was found to be approximately 1,000,000 gallons of accumulated leachate. This accumulated leachate demonstrates a n e ed for a properly functional collection system. The following is a list of recommended repairs, including the leachate collection system as well as other note d deficiencies: LIST OF RECOMMENDED DEFICIENCIES AND SOLUTIONS AT THE PCB LANDFILL. 1. Cable at front entrance inoperative SOLUTION-Re-cement end post in ground -Place lock on cable Place warning sign on cable 2. Monitoring wells not of standard design SOLUTION-Replace wells with 2" inner casing using monitoring well standards and abandoning existing wells. *Approximate cost per well -$2,750.00 3. Mis-aligned security fences accessing landfill SOLUTION-Re-align using appropriate methods 4. Inoperative leachate detection probe SOLUTION-Replace or repair unit 5. Inoperative leachate collection system SOLUTION-Replace foot valve at end of collection pipe -Repair various cracks and leaks in the system *Cost of foot valve -$24.80 6.
