Attached is the January, 1990, PCB Landfill Monthly Inspection
Report. There are several potential problems at the landfill. As
reported this past month, the leachate pump is broken. There is also
litter present along the entrance road, especially near the front
gate cable. The access to well #2 and the leachate collection basin
needs to be improved. There is one ·area of the path that is
frequently wet which makes access difficult due to the soft clay
soils. This month our four-wheel drive vehicle became stuck and we
had to use a winch to get out.
Due to the lack of appropriations there are several ongoing
problems that have not been addressed. One of the connections for
the irrigation pipes has been broken for several years. Although
there has never been a need to ·use the sprinkler system, the system
should be maintained in case its use should become necessary. Also,
during a recent inspection, it was discovered that the inner well
casing of well #3 is cracked at one of the joints. The PCB Landfill
facility needs to .have funds allocated to provide for proper
maintenance and an effective ongoing monitoring program.
