Box 27687 Raleigh, North Carolina 27611 Re: Warren County PCB Landfill Dear Mr. Phillips: Since at least April of 1984 the irrigation system at the Warren County PCB Landfill has been inoperable because of broken risers and influent lines. Apparently the lack of an irrigation system has not adversely affected vegetative cover of the landfill cap. Nor has any sign of erosion of the cap been evident. While no adverse affects have been noted, as yet, it is critical that the irrigation system be operational, as needed, to maintain the vegetative cover and the structural integrity of the cap. The Depart.rrent of Criroo Control and Public Safety should ensure that the irrigation system is operational follCMing the winter freezes. An operational date of April 1, 1985 should be adequate to guard against damage tq the irrigation system due to freezes. If you have any questions, please contact ire. woors2--~#\ Janes H.
