Dan ~ley, Special Deputy Attorney General
EPA v. Department Of Corrections
TSCA-IV-84-0019
Tom Moffitt and I have discussed this matter and,
in accordance with your conversation with Tom, have
requested that EPA give us more time within which to file an
answer to their complaint. I expect the request to be
granted and that no answer will be due until November 8,
1984. In the meantime, I plan to discuss the case with the
appropriate EPA officials on October 25, 1984 in what they
call an informal settlement conference.
Prior to the 25th, any file on this matter that
you have compiled should be forwarded to Tom or me (Rm.
293, Archdale Building). In addition, EPA will expect
documentation on the following items in order to settle or
reduce the penalty:

2.
What steps were taken to resolve the problems ..
identified at the December 22, 1983 inspection1
What additional steps have been undertaken (perhaps
through cooperation with the PCB Task Force)? V 3. How was disposal of the transformers accomplished?
Due to the relatively small amount of PCB's involved, an
adequate response to these questions should provide
