BOX 629 RALEIGH 27602-0629 ~✓ October 19, 1984 MEMORANDUM TO: FROM: RE: Thomas Wilson, Department Of Corrections Geozze Johnson, Department Of Administration Dan ~ley, Special Deputy Attorney General EPA v. Department Of Corrections TSCA-IV-84-0019 Tom Moffitt and I have discussed this matter and, in accordance with your conversation with Tom, have requested that EPA give us more time within which to file an answer to their complaint. I expect the request to be granted and that no answer will be due until November 8, 1984. In the meantime, I plan to discuss the case with the appropriate EPA officials on October 25, 1984 in what they call an informal settlement conference. Prior to the 25th, any file on this matter that you have compiled should be forwarded to Tom or me (Rm. 293, Archdale Building). In addition, EPA will expect documentation on the following items in order to settle or reduce the penalty: ~ 'I 0~ \ 1. 2. What steps were taken to resolve the problems .. identified at the December 22, 1983 inspection1 What additional steps have been undertaken (perhaps through cooperation with the PCB Task Force)? V 3. How was disposal of the transformers accomplished?
