SUBJECT: Departmental PCB Liaison
As you may recall, we have been working with an interagency PCB
Task Force on how to manage state-owned, PCB-contaminated items
efficiently and safely. The task force held a seminar in
September which was well attended by state engineers and physical
plant staff.
At that seminar, the task force named George Johnson, PE, as the
state's PCB Coordinator. Mr. Johnson currently works in our
department's State Building Division.
I would like to ask you to designate someone in your office who
can serve as (1) a liaison with your engineers and (2) a liaison
with Mr. Johnson. Your designee will help keep you and us
informed of any problems or concerns your department may have with
PCB-contaminated items such as electrical capacitors and
transformers.
Your departmental designee need not have attended the September
seminar; that was intended primarily to give "hands-on"
information about rules and regulations concerning PCB
management. We will provide your designee with the information he
or she needs at a brief seminar later this year.

I cannot stress to you enough the importance of proper management
of these PCB items. Your departmental designee will be an
important part of our management plan.
We would appreciate it if you would fill out the attached sheet
and return to George Johnson, Room 403 in the Legislative Office
Building. Please respond by November 2.
