L te Healt • Due to the physical evidence including pressure and venting of gases from the PCB landfill, Mr. Joe Lennon, Health Director for Warren County, requested that the State evaluate any potential health pro- blems associated with the discharge of gases from the landfill. The State tested the vents on the landfill site and the results indicated the presence of PCB in exhaust gases. The significance of these data cannot be determined nor can any scientific or public health conclusion be made. It is evident to the State that utili- zing the best equipment available to us that the Health Directors concerns for potential health problems have not been adequately addressed. The State does not have the capability to determine, with any degree of assurance, the public health significance of gases venting from the landfill. It is requested that EPA evaluate, utilizing the best available technology, the significance of gases being generated from the landfill vents and discharge to the ambient air in order to determine the presence or absence of any potential public health hazard to Warren County citizens due to the discharge of gases from the PCB landfill.
