The pick up of PCB by NC DOT and transfer to the Warren County landfill was announced as
being complete on October 12, 1982.
Exposure monitoring during this program has heen previously reported. Generally all
samples showed less than 1 ug/m3 of PCB in the air being breathed by DOT employees. The
OSHA standard is 500 ug/m3. NIOSH recommended an extremely stringent maximum exposure
level of 1 ug/m3 in 1977 based on a study showing PCB caused cancer in animals ... ,
Keeping the employee exposures to this extremely low exposure level is indicative of a
good job being done in handling the PCB program. State personnel had good attitudes _and
-wo:k practices and were re_cept_ive to recommendations throughout the program .. ,; , ·,. ·· .. -~
