the ~CB Contaminated Soil Pick-up, Transport, and Landfilling in -Warren County
The Division of Health Services is beginning to receive a significant number of
phone calls on the PCB clean-up and many of these oalls have been referred to
me directly. The questions being asked deal with a variety of issues including
acute and chronic human health effects, air monitoring along the clean-up routes,
occupational exposure to the clean-up crews, safety of the landfill with
specific questions about the vinyl and clay liners, leachate collection system,
groundwater monitoring, etc.
On October l, 1982, I will be moving from the Solid and Hazardous Waste Management
Branch, Environmental Health Section, Bath Building (733-2178) to the Environ-
mental Epidemiology BrancQ, Epidemiology Section, Cooper Building (733-3421 ).
During the next several weeks, I anticipate these calls will increase in number
and I will continue to have them referred to you initially as you have requested.
I feel this is a good mechanism to keep you informed as to the types of calls
coming in. In addition, it helps to screen the calls for me so that those not
pertaining to health, (e.g. engineering, etc.) can be referred to those with
expertise in that particular area.
For issues pertaining to health, where you feel you need more information, call
me at the numbers listed above. If you cannot reach me, please call Martin Hines
at 733-3121. Give me a call or drop me a note if you have any other thoughts on
this matter.
