HEALTH EFFECTS PRECAUTIONS:
All participants and observers who will be in close proximity to
the scraping, lifting or dumping of the contaminated soil will wear air filtration
devices and protective clothing. ALL PERSONNEL ARE CLOTHED FOR MAXIMUM PROTECTION.
THE TEST WILL DETERMINE HOW MUCH OF THE PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT CAN BE REMOVED FOR
THE ACTUAL PCB CLEANUP. All persons wearing this protective clothing will shower
in a field shower supplied by _the U. S. Anny at the completion of the test as
an additional precaution.
Every person participating in the test has had a blood test to deter-
mine liver function and to establish existing levels of PCB.
Approximately 60 people will be equiped with protective clothing.
Air monitoring stations have been set up to record pre-operation
conditions and compare them with operational conditions at a variety of locations
and distances from the removal site, haul road and storage site. Air monitoring
is being handled by the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency Health Effects Research
Laboratoryand by the Department of Human Resources.
EPA indicates the results of the monitoring should be available
in four \-Jeeks. Dave Kelly will announce the resu.lts when they become available.
