RALEIGII--William W. Phillips , assistant to the secretary of the
N.C. Department of Crime Control and Public Safety, announced today that
"Jim Lineberger's Grading and Paving, Inc., contractor for the Warren County
PCB landfill, has informed the department the site will no longer be open to
the general public."
''It is within the perogative of the contractor to close the
site," Phillips said, "and since he has the responsibility for safety and
meeting the construction schedule, we concur in his decision to limit the
' , risks ."
Phillips said that the site closing did not preclude Warren ' , .
County officials charged with protecting the health and we lfare of county
residents from visiting the site or monitoring construction progress.
