GOVERNOR August 19, 1982 MEMORANDUM TO: FROM: Area News Media Bryant Haskins, Director Public Affairs Office f>o SECRETARY TELEPHONE 919/733-4534 We will be holding an informal press briefing at the Warren County PCB landfill site Wednesday, August 25, at 10:30 a.m. The purpose of the briefing will be to provide an update on construction of the landfill, and to review for you some of the safety features that have been built into the project. The consulting engineers and state environmental personnel will be on hand to answer any questions you might have. Representatives of the Department of Transportation also will be present to discuss the pickup and removal to the landfill of the PCB contaminated soil. If you would like to attend the briefing, please call me at 733-4471, or Russ Edmonston at 733-5027 so we can arrange for adequate parking at the landfill site near Afton. A map to the landfill is attached for your convenience. The briefing should be very informative, and I hope you will be able to attend. llb Attachment DIRECTIONS 'ID LANDFILL--If you are headed to the landfill from the Raleigh area, take Highway 401 to Elberon. Stay on 401 for about two miles beyond Elberon, where you will make a right tum onto State Road 1604. Road 1604 will fork to the left after you travel about six miles. Approximately two miles after the road forks you should see the entrance to the landfill on the right.
