C. 28302 Mr. William Strickland State of North Carolina Division of Health Services P. 0. Box 2091 Raleigh , North Carolina 27602 April 6, 1981 Re: PCB Contamination Dear Mr. Strickland: On February 4, 1981, North Carolina Natural Gas received notice from the North Carolina Department of Transportation that any future gas line extensions or service line installations within PCB contaminated areas would not be approved. North Carolina Natural Gas presently owns and operates gas lines along S.R. 1416 and S.R. 1003 in Wilson County. These lines are in contaminated soil. From time to time it will be necessary to excavate these lines for emergency leakage repair. These repairs would normally be completed with Company employees working in and around the contaminated soil. To safeguard their health, please advise what special protection we should provide our employees to prevent exposure to the hazards of the contaminant.
