Dear Ms. Drummond:
Bunnell-Lammons Engineering, Inc. (BLE) is pleased to submit this update to the North Carolina
Division of Waste Management (NCDWM) Solid Waste Section (SWS) for surface water compliance
for the subject site.
As the SWS is aware, surface water monitoring for 1,4-dioxane (DX) is performed at surface water
monitoring locations designated SW-2A, SW-3, and SW-4 on a semi-annual frequency. The
concentrations of DX detected in the surface water typically do not exceed the North Carolina surface
water standard of 80 µg/L. However, concentrations of DX exceeded the standard at the SW-3 and
SW-4 locations during the October 2022 sampling event which was documented in the Water Quality
Report dated May 1, 2023 (BLE Project No. J22-14175-07).
BLE recently received the surface water monitoring data for the water quality monitoring event
conducted in April 2023. Those data will be included in a future water quality report. We have
prepared time series data plots of the DX concentrations through the April 2023 event to document
surface water compliance status as an interim measure. The data indicate that all three surface water
sampling points are currently in compliance for DX.
