1. EACH VCW CONTAINS A GROUNDWATER PUMP, AN UPPER ANO LOWER PRESSURE
TRANSDUCER, MANUAL G.4TE VALVES ON THE TREAlMENT INFLUENT AND RETURN WATER LINES,
AND A MOTOR-ACTUATED BALL VALVE ON THE RETURN WATER PIPE. PUMPING AND RETURN
RATES WILL BE CONTROLLED MANUALLY.
2. INITIAL OPERATION WILL BEGIN BY PUMPING EACH WELL AT THE AVERAGE FLOW RATE LISTED
IN THE FINAL DESIGN WORKPLAN. FLOW CONTROL WILL BE ACHIEVED USING GATE VALVES
HV-1 THROUGH HV-7.
3. IF PUMPING RATES EXCEED RECOVERY RATES IN A GIVEN WELL. THE PRESSURE TRANSDUCER
SET IN THE PUMP SECTION WILL SHUT DOWN THE PUMP AND AUTOMATICALLY CLOSE THE
MOTOR-ACTUATED BALL VALVE ON THE RETURN WATER LINE FOR THAT WELL (MAV-1
THROUGH MAV-7), VIA THE PLC.
4. THE VARIABLE FREQUENCY DRIVE (VFD) FOR THE RETURN PUMP SHALL RECEIVE A SPEED
REFERENCE SIGNAL THAT IS PROPORTIONAL TO THE NUMBER Of WELL PUMPS IN OPERATION.
THE VFD SPEED SHALL BE REGULATED IN STEPS BY THE WELL PUMP OPERATION SIGNAL
SUCH THAT THE TOTAL FLOW RATE WILL BE LINEARLY PROPORTIONAL TO THE WELL PUMP
OPERATION USING CENTRIFUG.4L AFFINITY RELATIONSHIPS.
5. FOLLOWING RECOVERY, THE PUMP WILL BE MANUALLY RE-STARTED AFTER THE PUMPING RATE
IS REDUCED ACCORDINGLY. RECOVERY WILL BE DEEMED COMPLETE BASED ON THE SIGNAL
FROM THE LOWER LEVEL PRESSURE TRANSDUCER.
6. WATER RETIJRN (OR RECIRCULATION) RATES WILL BE CONTROLLED USING GATE VALVES HV-9
THROUGH HV-14. A HIGH-PRESSURE SIGNAL FROM THE TRANSDUCER IN THE RETURN
WATER WELL SECTION WILL SHUT DOWN THE GROUNDWATER PUMP AND WILL CLOSE THE
CORRESPONDING MOTOR-ACTUATED VALVE VIA THE PLC. THE PUMPING AND RETURN FLOW
RATES WILL BE MANUALLY REDUCED AND PUMPING WILL RE-START MANUALLY.

8. A HIGH SUMP LEVEL IN THE AIR STRIPPER WILL CAUSE AN IMMEDIATE SHUTDOWN OF AU
GROUNDWATER PUMPS. A HIGH OR LOW AIR PRESSURE ALARM IN THE AIR STRIPPER
WILL CAUSE AN IMMEDIATE SHUTDOWN OF ALL PUMPS WHICH PROVIDE FLOW TO THAT AIR
STRIPPER. AT THE SHUTDOWN OF ANY GIVEN GROUNDWATER PUMP, THE
MOTOR-ACTUATED VALVE ON THE RETURN WATER LINE WILL ALSO IMMEDIATELY CLOSE.
9. A HIGH LEVEL ALARM IN THE BUil.DiNG SUMP WILL CAUSE THE SHUTDOWN OF ALL
GROUNDWATER PUMPS AND THE RETURN PUMP, AND THE CLOSING Of ALL
MOTOR-AClUATED VALVES.
10. SIGNALS FROM EACH FLOW METER WILL BE SENT TO THE PLC AT THE CONTROL PANEL
FOR DISPLAY. PRESSURE TRANSDUCER SIGNALS WILL BE SENT TO THE PLC FOR THE
CONTROL OF THE MOTOR-AClUATED VALVES.
11. MOTOR-ACTUATED VALVES MAV-1 THROUGH MAV-7 SHALL BE OF THE lYPE TO FAIL IN
THE CLOSED POSffiON.
