Additionally, the report includes the provisions included in the recommendations section of the United States Environmental Protection I Agency (USEPA) -Region IV Five Year Review ,Report dated September 2000. This report describes activities, which occurred during the period August 1, 2005 through October 31, 2005 as part of the Remedial Action phase of this project. Specifically, this report describes the operational status of the groundwater remediation systems and: the results of the quarterly system cffiuent sampling event conducted for the period. PROJECT TASKS INITIATED OR COMPLETED THROUGH OCTOBER 31, 2005: I • Weekly operation and maintenance of the systems; and, • Quarterly effluent sampling of the remediation systems. I I RESULTS OF SAMPLING AND TESTING AND OTHER DAT A RECEIVED: I Tables 1 through 4 summarize the effluerit analytical results for three operational groundwater treatment systems, Upper Dockery, Uppe~ Macon Source Area, and the Upper/Lower Macon remediation systems, and one suspended remediation system, Lower Dockery. No ' exceedances were observed during the reporting period. Air samples were collected from the I I I I I I I I n D I I I I I I I I I I Ms. Giczcllc Bennett December 30, 2005 Page No. 2 exhaust stacks of the remediation systems and fro~ the eastern property line. The results of the air sample analyses are summarized on Table 5. Mass removal estimates were calculated based on total volatile influent concentration and the total flow re~orded for the period at each remediation system. A summary of the mass removal estimate is provided on Table 6. I I OPERATIONAL DIFFICULTIES AND DELAYS: ' • July 23, 2005 -August 12, 2005 -The Upper Dockery, Upper Macon Source Area, and Upper and Lower Macon systems were down because ',of power outages resulting from damage \ 1--- sustained by lightning. On August 12, 2005, the power was restored and all the systems restarted. ' I • August 13, 2005 -August 20, 2005 -The Upper Macon Source Area was down due to a tripped 1 circuit breaker. The breaker was reset and the system restarted on August 20, 2005. The shear element was replaced and the Z,,.. system restarted on September 10, 2005. 1 • October I, 2005 -October 18, 2005 -The Upper Macon Source Area and Upper and Lower Macon groundwater remediation systems wereidown because of the loss of three phase power I 7 supply. On October 18, 2005, Pee Dee Electric restored 3-phase power and the systems were I restarted. I The MDSG appreciates the USEPA's cooperation with this project.
