Additionally, the report includes the provisions included in the recommendations section of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) -Region IV Five Year Review Report dated September 2000. This report describes activities, which occurred during the period February I, 2005 through April 30, 2005 as part of the Remedial Action phase of this project. Specifically, this report describes the operational status of the groundwater remediation systems and the results of the quarterly system effluent and monitoring well sampling conducted for the period. PROJECT TASKS INITIATED OR COMPLETED THROUGH APRIL 30, 2005: • • • • Weekly operation and maintenance of the systems; Quarterly effluent sampling of the remediation systems; Suspension of the Lower Dockery groundwater remediation system in accordance with the USEPA Lower Dockery groundwater remediation system suspension approval letter dated March 16, 2004; and, Sampling of monitoring wells MW-16 and MW-24 associated with the Lower Dockery groundwater remediation system. I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I Ms. Giezelle Bennett June IS, 2005 Page No. 2 RESULTS OF SAMPLING AND TESTING AND OTHER DATA RECEIVED: Laboratory results for the quarterly effiuent sampling of the remediation systems and monitoring wells MW-16 and MW-24 are included in Appendix A. Tables 1 through 5 summarize the analytical results for the four operational groundwater treatment systems and two monitoring wells. Mass volatile organic compound (VOC) removal estimates for the groundwater remediation systems are summarized in Table 6. The concentrations for the collected groundwater samples were below the Remediation Performance Standard except for the following parameter: Analytical Result ,) Remediation Sample Location Analytical Parameter Performance (ug/L) ......-------12 & Standard (uo/1.i MW-24 Manganese .l-860 50 ug/L -micrograms per liter The high manganese concentration in monitoring well MW-24 can likely be attributed to elevated background manganese levels in groundwater and sediments in the vicinity of the site. Fluid levels were recorded in the wells al the Lower Dockery site. A summary of the fluid level measurements and the calculated groundwater elevations are provided on Table 7. OPERATIONAL DIFFICULTIES AND DELAYS: The following operational delays and difficulties were experienced this reporting period: March 4, 2005 -Upper Dockery: Upon arrival the Upper Dockery system was found off due to a high water level in the airstripper sump. The sump was pumped out and the system restarted normally. Ice blockage in the effluent line was suspected as the cause. The MDSG appreciates the USEPA's cooperation with this project.
