This report describes activities which occurred during the month of September as part of the Remedial Design and Remedial Action phase of this project. PROJECT TASKS INITIATED OR COMPLETED THROUGH SEPTEMBER 1996: • Monthly sampling of the remediation systems effluent • Continue O & M of systems . RESULTS OF SAMPLING AND TESTING AND OTHER DATA RECEIVED: • Laboratory results for September sampling of the remediation systems is included in this progress report. Tables I to 4 record the analytical results for the four groundwater treatment systems. All effluent concentrations are below the Remediation Performance Standard except for manganese and lead at Upper Macon Source Area with a concentration of 68 µg/L and 66 µg/L, respectively. • Upper Dockery flow meter reading for September totaled 2 I 8,330 gallons. System was operational 77% of the time averaging 3.1 GPM. Mass VOC removal was 0.35 pounds for the month and the cumulative is 2.33 pounds. • Lower Dockery flow meter reading for September totaled 63,833 gallons. System was operational 77% of the time averaging 1.3 GPM. Mass VOC removal was 0. The gallery has been taking all of the effluent water and not overflowing · PROBLEMS AND DELAYS: • • • • September 6 -Macon Source Area and Lower Dockery alarm went off following Hurricane Fran. Found the power off at both the Macon and Dockery sides. Trees were down on the power lines. September 9 -Macon Source Area, Upper and Lower Macon, and SVE systems alarm went off. Went into alarm condition when power was restored. Dockery still has no power. September 13 -SVE system down. Found high water level in the moisture separator . Drained the separator and system operating normally. Upper Dockery alarm went off. Found high water level in the stripper sump. Drained the sump and the system is now operating normally. September 16 -Upper/Lower Macon system down. Found Magnetrol level probe failure . Replaced and calibrated the probe for Lower Macon. Upper Macon probe on order. I I R I I B D I I I I I • September 20 -SVE system short-cycling. Discovered that stormwater from the hurricane had entered the motor, shorting the windings and ruining the bearings. Replacement motor will be installed. • The Upper/Lower Macon were down because of the hurricane and the failure of the probes. The SVE was down because of the hurricane and motor needing replacement. • Percent operational for each system: Upper Dockery Lower Dockery Upper Macon Lower Macon 77% 77% 40% 13% Macon Source Area 77% Respectfully Submitted, Kenny Gulledge Project Coordinator SVE system 40% cc: Macon/Dockery Site Group Members Paul Furtick, RMT, Inc.
