This report describes activities which occurred during the month of June as part of the Remedial Design and Remedial Action phase of this project. PROJECT TASKS INITIATED OR COMPLETED THROUGH JUNE 1996: • Monthly sampling of the remediation systems • Continue O & M of systems . • Installed metals treatment unit for U/L Macon . • Installed timer for SVE system RESULTS OF SAMPLING AND TESTING AND OTHER DATA RECEIVED: • Laboratory results for June sampling of the remediation systems is included in this progress report. Tables I to 4 record the analytical results for the four groundwater treatment systems. All effluent concentrations are below the Remediation Performance Standard. Lower Dockery system was off, however, the influent line was sampled. • Table 6 records the air quality sampling. Chloroform was detected in the SVE inlet line and the Macon Source air stack. Lower Dockery system was down so the air stack was not _ sampled. 6525 The Corners Parkway, Suite 400 • Norcross, Georgia 30092 • Tel: (770) 448-4911 • Fax: (770} 409-7893 I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I • Table 7 records all groundwater elevations taken since system start up. All planned monitor wells were gauged. The recovery wells were added to the gauging schedule. • • • • Upper Dockery flow meter reading for June totaled 97,350 gallons. System was operational 33% of the time averaging 7.3 GPM. Mass VOC removal was 0.1 pounds for the month and the cumulative is 1.22 pounds. Lower Dockery flow meter reading for June totaled 8,619 gallons. System was operational 5% of the time averaging 4.2 GPM. Mass VOC removal was 0.01 pounds for the month and the cumulative is 0. 78 pounds. Macon Source Area estimated flow meter reading for June totaled 114,048 gallons. System was operational 33% of the time averaging 8.0 GPM. Mass VOC removal was 0.06 pounds for the month and the cumulative is 0.41 pounds. Upper/Lower Macon estimated flow meter reading for June totaled 172,800 gallons . Combined system was operational 20% of the time averaging 20 GPM. Mass VOC removal was 0.04 pounds for the month and the cumulative is 0.26 pounds. TASKS PLANNED FOR JULY 1996: • Monthly sampling of the remediation systems • Continue O &M of systems • Treat Upper Dockery with chlorine PROBLEMS AND DELAYS: • • June 3 -A severe thunderstorm caused an overload of most of the circuits. Fallen trees blocked the entrances. Macon Source Area was down to overloads in the blower circuit breaker. The system was restarted but the Foxboro flow meter had to be sent to the manufacturer. Lower Dockery was down due to blower overloads. System was restarted and is operating normally. Upper/Lower Macon was down due to the blower overloads and circuit breaker being tripped. The system was restarted and appears to be operating normally. June 18 -Timer installed on SVE system and operational. Low water probe at Upper/Lower I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I • • • • • • Macon was fixed and operational. June 20 -Thunderstorms caused a number of trees to fall on the power lines creating a power outage to the entire site. Replaced computer chip at Lower Dockery but probe did not respond. Will need to replace probe. June 26 -Upper Dockery and Macon Source Area were down due to overload circuits. Pee Dee Electric informed us that power surges and outages will continue until the end of summer due to rerunning of several electrical lines in the area. Upper/Lower Macon were down due to power outages. The influent tanks had drained as a result of the system being down. One well is shut off at Upper Dockery, UD2 because the gallery will not take additional water. The Lower Dockery system had more down time than the other systems because of frequent failure of the probe and power outages, which would shut down the system. The probe will be replaced. U/L Macon system down time is contributed to the power outages and probe failure. The probes have been fixed but electrical outages are still occurring. Percent operational for each system: Upper Dockery 33% Lower Dockery 5% Upper Macon 20% Lower Macon 20% Macon Source Area 33% SVE system 100% Respectfully Submitted, ?~~/J .:f. i,.).._((<..e---~r k.e.,_,,,_1 C...11<.Jlpt- Kenny Gulledge Project Coordinator cc: Macon/Dockery Site Group Members Paul Furtick, RMT, Inc.
