1.0 INTRODUCTION
Earth Tech, Inc. has prepared this Pre-Construction Walk-Through Report, for ARCADIS Geraghty &
Miller, Inc. This document provides Earth Tech's observations on June 13, 2000 during the Pre-
Construction Walk-Through at the JFD Electronics/Channel Master Site located in Granville County,
Oxford, North Carolina. This Report has been prepared pursuant to Specification Section 01430. The site
walk-through was conduct with the following attendees: Michelle Pahr, Jeff Hall, Nanjun Shelly of
ARCADIS, Geraghty & Miller, Ned Murray, Tommy Davis of Safety Kleen, Sam Clement of AVNET,
Dave Mattison of NC DENR, Philip Vorsatz of EPA, Michael Gleasman, Carl Duffey of Earth Tech.
2.0 SITE CONDITIONS
The weather conditions were hot, humid and sunny with some partial cloudiness.
The area designated as the contractor staging area east of the metal building was clear except for a roll
off dumpster with debris and 2 pallets of boxes that apparently have been left exposed to the weather.
The fence at the site was in generally good condition except for some areas where there were scrub trees
and vines growing along and through the fence fabric. There were some poles that are bent but not
severely. There was also vegetation and scrub trees growing along and on the metal building at various
locations.
The power poles in the work area appeared to be in good condition.
The ground surface between the metal building and the fence at the Norfolk Southern property line was
generally dry, packed with tall grass and many bare or brown places. The area just to the west of the
metal building had some standing water in low places. There is a marshy area with standing water
adjacent to the south of the concrete treatment tanks.
It was noted that the diversion berm that is to go from the retaining wall at the NE comer of the metal
building to the concrete treatment tanks will need to be modified in the field. The way it is shown on
Drawing No. 3 is impractical due to the topography of the site.
Inspection of the work areas on the Norfolk Southern property was not done due to the lack of the access
agreement.
The site layout plan showing the areas described above is in Figure I. There are four photos that were
taken during the site walk-through and are attached in Figure 2.
3.0 CONCLUSIONS
Earth Tech found the site in acceptable condition to proceed with work. We request that the area east of the
metal building in and around the contractor staging area be cleared of the dumpster, pallets and any other
objects. Objects in this area will impede Earth Tech's ability to perform its work and they could be
damaged from Earth Tech's site activities.
