DATE AND TIME OF FIRE: 05/01/2023 @ 8:00 AM
HOW WAS THE FIRE REPORTED AND BY WHOM:
Leff Blood (Iredell County Solid Waste) came to the site and observed smoke and steam at the Western edge of the landfill.
LIST ACTIONS TAKEN:
Small area that was smoking (10' X 10')was quickly covered with soil. Surrounding area had more soil added as well (30' X 30')
WHAT WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE:
Spontaneous combustion.
DESCRIBE AREA, TYPE, AND AMOUNT OF WASTE INVOLVED:
A small area (10' X 10') on the western edge of the landfill started smoking. Yard waste debris was smoking.
WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN DONE TO PREVENT THIS FIRE:
Adequate soil cover to keep out oxygen.
DESCRIBE PLAN OF ACTIONS TO PREVENT FUTURE INCIDENTS:
We will continue to work diligently to cover the landfill with adequate soil cover (12 inches of soil).
