EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Work at the site was suspended in 2011 due to the site rank. DEQ required that the site monitor wells be sampled in August 2022. Benzene, MTBE, and naphthalene were detected above their groundwater standards; no compounds were detected above their gross contaminant level. C. SITE HISTORY and CHARACTERIZATION Texaco Food Mart is a former convenience store that sold petroleum products from an underground storage tank system. Two releases have occurred: (1) incident 21962 – discovered in 2000, and (2) incident 37731 – piping release discovered by the 2010 UST removal. E. SITE ASSESSMENT INFORMATION 1.0 MONITOR WELL SAMPLING 1.1 Sampling Protocol Monitor wells 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and vertical monitor well 1 were sampled August 29, 2022. They were sampled with individual, new, disposable bailers after first gauging the wells and then purging three well casing volumes. The samples were placed in laboratory provided 40 ml vials, fixed with a chain of custody, and placed on ice for shipment between the field, office, and laboratory. They were refrigerated at our office until delivery to PACE Analytical the following day. 2 1.2 Sampling Results The samples were analyzed by methods 6200B; a summary follows. MW-1: dry, MW-1A: no sample – covered by construction, MW-2: benzene and naphthalene > standard, but < GCL, MW-3: MTBE > standard, but < GCL / BTEX-naphthalene non-detect, MW-4: benzene, MTBE, and naphthalene > standard, but < GCL, MW-5: MTBE 3 ppb / BTEX-naphthalene non-detect, MW-6: no compounds detected, MW-7: MTBE 2 ppb / BTEX-naphthalene non-detect, and VMW-1: no compounds detected. The last sampling event was February 14, 2022. A comparison between these events follows. MW-2: BTE/MTBE/Naphthalene decrease significantly, MW-3: MTBE increase from 179 ppb to 230 ppb, MW-4: BTEX/MTBE/Naphthalene substantially increase, MW-5: MTBE decrease from 4 to 3 ppb, MW-6: remain non-detect, MW-7: MTBE decrease 5 to 2 ppb, and VMW-1: remain non-detect. The analytical results are presented in Table B-4, Table 1 is a historical summary of the sampling results, and the laboratory analyses are attached. Individual BTEX/MTBE maps are attached. F. FREE PRODUCT – not applicable G. SOIL REMEDIATION – not applicable H. GROUNDWATER REMEDIATION - natural attenuation I. CONCLUSIONS Benzene, MTBE, and naphthalene are the only compounds detected above their groundwater standard; all three are well below their gross contaminant level. Groundwater contamination remains centered around the 2000 release (MWs 2 & 4). This sampling event verifies the large contaminant decreases seen between the 2011 and February 2022 sampling events. 3 J. ND - Not Detected at or above adjusted reporting limit. TNTC - Too Numerous To Count J - Estimated concentration above the adjusted method detection limit and below the adjusted reporting limit. MDL - Adjusted Method Detection Limit. PQL - Practical Quantitation Limit. RL - Reporting Limit - The lowest concentration value that meets project requirements for quantitative data with known precision and bias for a specific analyte in a specific matrix. S - Surrogate 1,2-Diphenylhydrazine decomposes to and cannot be separated from Azobenzene using Method 8270. The result for each analyte is a combined concentration. Consistent with EPA guidelines, unrounded data are displayed and have been used to calculate % recovery and RPD values. LCS(D) - Laboratory Control Sample (Duplicate) MS(D) - Matrix Spike (Duplicate) DUP - Sample Duplicate RPD - Relative Percent Difference NC - Not Calculable. SG - Silica Gel - Clean-Up U - Indicates the compound was analyzed for, but not detected. Acid preservation may not be appropriate for 2 Chloroethylvinyl ether. A separate vial preserved to a pH of 4-5 is recommended in SW846 Chapter 4 for the analysis of Acrolein and Acrylonitrile by EPA Method 8260. N-Nitrosodiphenylamine decomposes and cannot be separated from Diphenylamine using Method 8270. The result reported for each analyte is a combined concentration. Reported results are not rounded until the final step prior to reporting. Therefore, calculated parameters that are typically reported as "Total" may vary slightly from the sum of the reported component parameters. Pace Analytical is TNI accredited. Contact your Pace PM for the current list of accredited analytes. TNI - The NELAC Institute. ANALYTE QUALIFIERS This analyte exceeded secondary source verification criteria high for the initial calibration.
