(S&ME) submits this Letter Report for the above-referenced site in accordance with S&ME’s Proposal No. 43-1700233, dated March 14, 2017 and subsequent authorizations. This work was performed at the request of the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) as pre-approved under Task Authorization No. 20918-14 and signed by the Trust Fund Section of the Central Office on June 20, 2018. The scope of services included the collection of groundwater samples from monitoring wells MW-1 and MW-2, for analyses by Method 6200B and by Method 504.1. On July 3, 2018, the services were conducted as proposed. Copies of the groundwater sampling forms are attached. The attached figure shows monitoring well locations and the location of remediation wells used during corrective action activities performed during 2017. Volatile organic compound (VOC) concentrations greater than the Gross Contamination Level (GCL), were reported for monitor well sample MW-1, including Ethylene dibromide at a concentration of 111 micrograms per liter (ug/L), and Benzene at a concentration of 5,580 ug/L. Eleven VOCs were reported in the sample collected from monitor well MW-1 at concentrations less the corresponding GCLs but greater than the corresponding 15A NCAC 02L Standards (2L Standards). Six VOCs were reported for monitor well sample MW-2 at concentrations less than the corresponding GCLs but greater than the corresponding 2L Standards. A copy of the laboratory report is attached. Based on the analytical results described above, dissolved VOC impacts to groundwater near the source area represented by monitor well MW-1 rebounded to concentrations greater than the GCLs. The VOCs detected at monitoring well MW-2 remain at concentrations less than the corresponding GCLs. When compared with the December 12, 2017, analytical results, the July 3, 2018 analytical results indicate that dissolved VOC concentrations rebounded following the cessation of the hot-spot soil vapor extraction and air-sparge operations. ND - Not Detected at or above adjusted reporting limit. TNTC - Too Numerous To Count J - Estimated concentration above the adjusted method detection limit and below the adjusted reporting limit. MDL - Adjusted Method Detection Limit. PQL - Practical Quantitation Limit. RL - Reporting Limit - The lowest concentration value that meets project requirements for quantitative data with known precision and bias for a specific analyte in a specific matrix. S - Surrogate 1,2-Diphenylhydrazine decomposes to and cannot be separated from Azobenzene using Method 8270. The result for each analyte is a combined concentration. Consistent with EPA guidelines, unrounded data are displayed and have been used to calculate % recovery and RPD values. LCS(D) - Laboratory Control Sample (Duplicate) MS(D) - Matrix Spike (Duplicate) DUP - Sample Duplicate RPD - Relative Percent Difference NC - Not Calculable. SG - Silica Gel - Clean-Up U - Indicates the compound was analyzed for, but not detected. Acid preservation may not be appropriate for 2 Chloroethylvinyl ether. A separate vial preserved to a pH of 4-5 is recommended in SW846 Chapter 4 for the analysis of Acrolein and Acrylonitrile by EPA Method 8260. N-Nitrosodiphenylamine decomposes and cannot be separated from Diphenylamine using Method 8270. The result reported for each analyte is a combined concentration. Pace Analytical is TNI accredited. Contact your Pace PM for the current list of accredited analytes. TNI - The NELAC Institute. LABORATORIES Pace Analytical Services - CharlottePASI-C ANALYTE QUALIFIERS Matrix spike recovery exceeded QC limits. Batch accepted based on laboratory control sample (LCS) recovery.M1 Surrogate recovery outside laboratory control limits due to matrix interferences (confirmed by similar results from sample re-analysis).S2 Surrogate recovery not evaluated against control limits due to sample dilution.S4 REPORT OF LABORATORY ANALYSIS This report shall not be reproduced, except in full, without the written consent of Pace Analytical Services, LLC.Date: 07/12/2018 12:15 PM Pace Analytical Services, LLC 9800 Kincey Ave. Suite 100 Huntersville, NC 28078 (704)875-9092 Page 19 of 23 #=CR# QUALITY CONTROL DATA CROSS REFERENCE TABLE Pace Project No.: Project: 92390768 Eskimo Joe's Lab ID Sample ID QC Batch Method QC Batch Analytical Method Analytical Batch 92390768001 418528 418636MW-1 EPA 504.1 EPA 504.1 92390768002 417967 417993MW-2 EPA 504.1 EPA 504.1 92390768001 418201MW-1 SM 6200B 92390768002 418201MW-2 SM 6200B REPORT OF LABORATORY ANALYSIS This report shall not be reproduced, except in full, without the written consent of Pace Analytical Services, LLC.Date: 07/12/2018 12:15 PM Pace Analytical Services, LLC 9800 Kincey Ave. Suite 100 Huntersville, NC 28078 (704)875-9092 Page 20 of 23 Page 21 of 23 Page 22 of 23 Page 23 of 23
