Highway 210 Rocky Point, Pender County, North Carolina NCDEQ Incident No. 32692 Priority Site Ranking: I172D Mr. Haseltine: On behalf of Springer Eubank Co., Inc., ATC Associates of North Carolina, P.C. (ATC) has prepared this letter report to provide a summary of soil sampling activities, as approved in pre-approval task authorization number TA-60. Soil Sampling On November 1, 2022, soil sampling was performed by ATC to determine if light non-aqueous phase liquid (LNAPL) is present in proximity to gasoline dispenser 11/12 and to assist in the delineation of petroleum-impacted soil in proximity to this area at the referenced site. The soil samples were collected for laboratory analyses using either a field-decontaminated stainless steel hand auger or by using direct push technology. Two soil samples were collected from each boring location. One soil sample was collected in the unsaturated zone (at a depth of either 2-3 or 3-5 feet below ground surface (bgs)) and one soil sample was collected in the smear/saturated zone (at a depth of either 7-9 feet bgs, 9-10 feet bgs, or 9-11 feet bgs). Upon collection, each soil sample was screened with a PID. The respective PID readings are provided in Table 1. The locations of the soil samples (B-1 through B-7) are depicted on Figure 1. Boring logs are provided in Attachment I. All samples were collected into laboratory-supplied containers and shipped on ice to SGS North America, Inc. (SGS) in Scott, Louisiana. The soil samples collected from the unsaturated zone of each boring was analyzed by EPA Method 8260 and Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MADEP) method for volatile petroleum hydrocarbons (VPH). The soil samples collected from the smear/saturated zone of each boring was f{rg EliirlnBtitff ilTAi . Unsaturated Zone Laboratory analytical results of soil samples B-2 (2-3), B-4 (2-3), B-5 (2-3), and B-7 (3-5) detected target compound concentrations above Soil-to-Groundwater (STGW) Maximum Contaminant Concentrations (MSCCs) but below Residential MSCCs. Based on these analytical results, it appears petroleum-related impacts to soil in the unsaturated zone are not present above Residential MSCCs. Smear/Saturated Zone Laboratory analytical results of soil samples B-2 (7-9), B-5 (7-9), and B-7 (7-9) detected TPH-GRO concentrations above the State Action Level of 50 micrograms per kilogram (mg/kg). The soil analytical results are presented in Table 1. Petroleum-related impacts to soil are provided on Figure 3. A copy of the laboratory report and chain-of-custody documents are provided in Attachment IL Based on the analytical data, itappears LNAPL is not present near gasoline dispenser 11112 andpetroleum-related impacts to soilabove Residential MSCCs were not identified.
