EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Sunrise BP is located at 2005 East Ash Street in Goldsboro, Wayne County, North Carolina. The site is
currently owned by Ham Ruben S. Enterprises, Inc. According to available information, four 3,000-gallon
gasoline, and one 6,000-gallon gasoline USTs were removed from the site in May 1993. The adjoining
properties are commercial and residential. According to the information determined during receptor
survey activities, no potable water supply wells were identified within 1,000 feet of the site. Municipal
water is available to the site and surrounding properties. The site was assigned an intermediate risk
classification due to the historical presence of free product in monitoring wells MW-1 and MW-8A.
On October 12, 2020, five monitoring wells (MW-1, MW-2A, MW-8A, MW-9, and MW-17) were gauged,
purged and/or sampled. No free product was observed in any monitoring wells. Concentrations of
benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes, and/or naphthalene reported in the ground water samples
collected from MW-1, MW-2A, MW-8A, and MW-9 were less than the Maximum Allowable
Concentrations and the Gross Contaminant Levels.
Based on this information, the site risk classification can be reduced to low risk; and, subsequent to filing
a Notice of Residual Petroleum and completing public notification, the incident should be closed with a
no further assessment.

1.0 SITE HISTORY AND CHARACTERIZATION
Geological Resources, Inc. (GRI) presents the results of the October 2020 ground water sampling event at
the Sunrise BP site, located at 2005 East Ash Street in Goldsboro, Wayne County, North Carolina (Figures
1). These activities were conducted in accordance with GRI Proposal No. 20-570, which was submitted to
the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) on October 2, 2020 and was approved
as Task Authorization No. 10679-031 on October 6, 2020. State correspondence has been included as
Appendix A.
According to available information, four 3,000-gallon gasoline, and one 6,000-gallon gasoline USTs were
removed from the site in May 1993. The site is no longer a retail petroleum facility but has been
developed into a small office complex. It is currently owned by Ham Ruben S. Enterprises, Inc. The
Registered Tank Report is shown below:
The site and surrounding area are a mixture of residential and commercial properties. The overall
topography at the site is relatively flat. No surface water bodies were identified within a 500-foot radius
of the site. According to historical receptor survey activities, no water supply wells were identified within
a 1,000-foot radius of the site. Municipal water is available to the site and surrounding properties. A Site
Vicinity Map is included as Figure 2.
A total of eighteen Type II monitoring wells (MW-1, MW-2A, MW-3A, MW-4 through MW-7, MW-8A, and
MW-9 through MW-18) and two Type III monitoring wells (TW-1 and TW-2) were installed at the site
during past ground water assessment activities. According to the historical information, monitoring wells
MW-6, MW-7, and TW-1 have been destroyed. A Site Map showing the locations of the monitoring wells
and the structures on-site has been included as Figure 3.

Please note that previous assessment and remediation activities were conducted by other consultants.
GRI cannot verify the accuracy of the information obtained from previous reports, but for purposes of this
report, it is assumed to be correct. Please refer to previous submittals for further historical information
regarding the site.
2.0 PRESENTATION OF CURRENT SITE ASSESSMENT INFORMATION/ COMPARISON TO HISTORICAL
ASSESSMENT INFORMATION
On October 12, 2020, five Type II monitoring wells (MW-1, MW-2A, MW-8A, MW-9, and MW-17) were
gauged, purged, and sampled in accordance with the NCDEQ guidelines. No free product was observed
in any monitoring wells. Depths to ground water in the Type II monitoring wells ranged from 3.09 feet to
6.47 feet. Ground water elevations in the Type II monitoring wells ranged from 93.23 feet to 94.86 feet.
Ground water flow was generally to the southeast with a horizontal gradient of approximately 0.01 feet
per foot. Well construction and gauging information is presented in Table 1. A Water Table Surface Map
based on the Type II monitoring wells is included as Figure 4. A summary of the current ground water
gauging data is shown below:

Ground water samples collected from the monitoring wells were submitted for laboratory analyses using
EPA Method 602. Concentrations of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes, and/or naphthalene
reported in the ground water samples collected from MW-1, MW-2A, MW-8A and MW-9 were less than
the maximum allowable concentrations (MACs) as specified in T15A NCAC 2L.0202. All of the reported
contaminant concentrations were below the gross contamination levels (GCLs). A summary of the
analytical results for ground water samples collected on October 12, 2020 is presented in Table 2. A
Ground Water Quality Map based on the October 2020 data is included as Figure 5. A complete report of
laboratory analyses of the ground water samples collected from the monitoring wells during the October
2020 sampling event has been included as Appendix B. A summary of the current ground water analytical
data is shown below:

3.0 FREE PRODUCT REMOVAL
Free product has historically been present in monitoring wells MW-1 and MW-8A. Free product has not
be reported at the site since 2017. Currently, no free product is present in any monitoring wells.
4.0 NATURAL ATTENUATION / NATURAL SOURCE ZONE DEPLETION STATUS
No natural attenuation monitoring plan is currently in place at the site.
5.0 CONCLUSIONS
On October 12, 2020, five Type II monitoring wells (MW-1, MW-2A, MW-8A, MW-9, and MW-17)
were gauged, purged, and sampled. No free product was detected in any monitoring wells.
Ground water flow was generally to the southeast with a horizontal gradient of approximately
0.01 feet per foot.
Concentrations of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes and/or naphthalene reported in the
ground water samples collected from MW-1, MW-2A, MW-8A and MW-9 did not exceed the
MACs. All of the reported contaminant concentrations were below the GCLs.
Based on this information, the site risk classification can be reduced to low risk; and, subsequent
to filing a Notice of Residual Petroleum and completing public notification, the incident should be
closed with a no further assessment.

1 - This ePATA expires one year from the Joint UST Preapproval date. This does not extend, alter, or supersede any regulatory deadlines (e.g., NORR's, NOV's, Enforcements, etc.)
2 - THE ONE YEAR STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS APPLIES TO EACH INDIVIDUAL TASK. Costs must be claimed within one year of completion of that task to be reimbursable.3 - Only Tasks included on this ePATA may be claimed. Do not include other Tasks or claimed costs (i.e., Claim preparation) that were not preapproved or the claim will be returned.
4 - Preapproval is not valid (i.e., claimable) until receipt is signed as 'Confirmed' by the RP or their designee and returned to the Trust Fund within a week of approval. Signature
indicates acknowledgement of the tasks and amounts approved. Any objections/appeals must be submitted via Change Order prior to work proceeding. Scope/cost
negotiations do not supersede other regulatory deadlines as described in #1 above. Also, any ePATA that has been signed as 'Confirmed' by both the UST Section and RP
is not to be modified without written consent by all signatories.5 - Tasks approved on Directed - CAB Only ePATAs must be performed in accordance with all applicable rules, statutes, and RRD Task Scopes of Work to be reimbursed in full.
