(GRI) presents the results of the ground water sampling event at the Han-Dee Hugo 61 site in Clayton, North Carolina. The activities were conducted in response to correspondence from the NCDEQ dated October 20, 2022. On December 5, 2022, monitoring well MW-1 was gauged, purged, and sampled per NCDEQ guidelines. Depth to ground water from the top of well casing was 13.66 feet below ground surface. Ground water samples were submitted for analyses of VOCs by EPA Method 602. A Site Location Map and Site Map have been included as Figures 1 and 2, respectively. Please see the attached laboratory report for the results of the December 2022 ground water sampling. Concentrations of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, total xylenes, and naphthalene that exceeded the Maximum Allowable Concentrations (MACs) as specified in T15A NCAC 2L.0202 were reported in the ground water samples collected from MW-1. No contaminant concentrations exceeded the Gross Contaminant Levels (GCLs). Temporary monitoring well TMW-4 was installed as part of a site assessment for property refinancing; TMW-4 was abandoned at the conclusion of the site assessment activities. Monitoring well MW-1 was installed in the same location during the Limited Site Assessment. To date, three ground water samples (September 16, 2021, April 19, 2022, and December 5, 2022) have been collected from this location and no GCL violations have been reported. Public water is available to the subject site and to all surrounding properties. No surface water bodies were identified within 500 feet of the site. Based on the lack of receptors and ground water quality, the site risk should be classified as low and subsequent to filing a Notice of Residual Petroleum for ground water and completing public notification, the incident should be closed with no further action.
