The item(s) listed above were observed by Section staff and require action on behalf of the facility in order to come into or maintain compliance
with the Statutes, Rules, and/or other regulatory requirements applicable to this facility. Be advised that pursuant to N.C.G.S. 130A-22, an
administrative penalty of up to $15,000 per day may be assessed for each violation of the Solid Waste Laws, Regulations, Conditions of a Permit,
or Order under Article 9 of Chapter 130A of the N.C. General Statutes. Further, the facility and/or all responsible parties may also be subject to
enforcement actions including penalties, injunction from operation of a solid waste management facility or a solid waste collection service and any
such further relief as may be necessary to achieve compliance with the North Carolina Solid Waste Management Act and Rules.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
Operations Inspection of the MSW Landfill Unit:
1. The facility was currently working in Phase 6.
2. The landfill was actively receiving waste during the inspection.
3. Edge of liner markers were observed.
4. Windblown waste was being collected during the inspection.
5. The working face was small and compact.
6. No unacceptable waste streams were observed in the MSWLF.
7. Facility staff were currently making repairs to a leachate outbreak on the northeast corner of cell 5. No leachate
escaped the liner.
Operations inspection of the White Goods Collection Area:
7. This area was well managed at the time of inspection.
8. White goods containing Freon are separated from other metals and stored in an upright manner.
9. Facility staff was extracting Freon during the inspection.
Operations inspection of the Electronic and Paint Collection Area:
10. This area was well managed at the time of the inspection.
11. Latex paint collected in five (5) gallon containers is mixed with the Posi-Shell.
Operations inspection of the HHW Area.
12. The facilities Household Hazardous Waste Generator Identification Number is NCPH0492001.
13. The Household Hazardous Waste Facility consists of a permanent containment unit that has three separate lockers
for temporary storage of household hazardous waste (Locker #1 — Flammable liquids; Locker #2 — Fluorescent
Bulbs; Locker #3 — Pesticides). All three lockers were secured and locked.
14. The floor grates and space beneath the grates were clean and free of debris.
15. Each of the three lockers in the containment unit are equipped with an Ansul Fire Suppression system.
16. The facility offers an HHW event once a month to the residents of Iredell County which is held the last Saturday of
each month.
17. The county has a contact with ECOFLO, Inc. to collect the household hazardous waste.

Operations inspection of the Tire Collection Area:
18. Tires are stored on the ground. When enough tires have accumulated for a load landfill staff contact New River to
deliver a trailer.
19. New River collected 1,922.78 tons in 2022.
Operations inspection of Mulching and Grinding/Yard Waste/Type 1 Small Composting
20. This area was well managed at the time of the inspection.
21. Land clearing waste and pallets are kept separated from yard waste that is required to be composted.
22. Painted pallets are removed to be used in the electronic collection area.
Operations inspection of the Asphalt Shingle Recycling Area:
23. The asphalt shingle recycling area was well managed at the time of the inspection.
24. At the time of the inspection Bunker A (left side) has been tested and 402.95 tons are ready to be hauled. Bunker B
(right side) 459.05 tons were picked up on November 10, 2022.
25. Asphalt shingles are collected by Maymead Asphalt for recycling.
