Twenty Day Report and Initial Abatement, including Excavation and Soil Remediation for the West Sugar Creek LLC (former Players Sporting Goods), 2422 West Sugar Creek Road, Charlotte NC. Dear Ms. Beverly I respectfully submit for your review and comment, this report summarizing the Soil Excavation and Remediation for two 550-Gallon Non -Regulated, Non -Registered Gasoline Underground Storage Tanks at the former Players Sporting Goods, 2422 West Sugar Creek Road, Charlotte NC. Contacts. Owner: West Sugar Creek LLC 2131 Ayrsley Town Blvd, Charlotte NC Andy Hinson (704 ) 975- 5758 Closure Contractor; RPI, Mike Holcomb, PO Box 519 Cornelius, NC (980) 395-2634 Consultant; Philip Thompson PG., 2411 Lawyers Road West, Indian Trail NC 28079 (704) 882- 2788 Laboratory; Laboratory; SGS 4405 Vinland Road, Orlando Fl. 32811 NC ID # 573 (704) 919- 1533, Tank Installation Size in Tank Last Contents Previous No. Date Gallons Dimensions Contents I Unknown 550 4' by 5.5' Heating Oil Heating Oil 2 Unknown 550 4' by 5.5' Heating Oil Heating Oil Site History The UST's at the site was utilized for heating the commercial building at the site. The location of the site is indicated on a excerpt of the 7.5 minute USGS map for Derita NC and is presented as Figure 1. An Excerpt from the Mecklenburg County Polaris site indicating the property boundaries is attached as Figure 2. There is notice on contaminated property the site due to a Dry Cleaning facility located nearby. The dry cleaning investigation found no contamination of the property, the notice was put in place due to the proximity of the site.. Remediation Activities On October 7, 2019, RPI and TGES initiated the excavation activities at the site. A soil sample was collected at the 6" below grade near the fill port confirming spillage from the UST. During the UST removal an additional UST was encountered. Neither Soil staining or odors were encountered in the excavation. Approximately 10 yards, (14.5) Tons) of soil was excavated. The location of the USTs and sample CS-1 is indicated on Figure 3. Please note the UST were predominantly located on the right of way of Hunter Blvd. The excavation was 8' by 6' by 7' deep. Sample CS-1 was collected at 7' below grade at the base of the excavation. The Confirmation samples was delivered to SGS Laboratories and analyzed by EPA Methods 8260, 8270, VPH and EPH. The results of the soil sampling are summarized on Table 1. The analytical data associated with the sampling events is presented in Appendix A, along with the Chain of Custodies. Receptors The Site is served by public water, TGES found no wells with 150 feet of the source. Results and Recommendations The sampling data indicate the soil has been exceeded soil to groundwater for three constituents. Benzene was detected at .0099 mg/kg, Soil to Groundwater for Benzene is .0056 mg/kg. Naphthalene was detected at .822J mg/kg, Soil to Groundwater for Naphthalene .2 mg/kg. MADEP VPH/EPH was detected at 33 mg/kg ,. Soil to Groundwater for MADEP VPH/EPH is 31 mg/kg. All constituents are less than residential standards. There are no wells with 150 feet of the UST. Since the site is already under a Notice of Contamination for Dry Cleaning Fluid. TGES recommends the site be closed with a NORP for soil and groundwater. Please call me at 704 882-2788 if you have any questions or require any additional information. Philip R. Thompson P.G_ Geologist Attachments Table 2..
