Pilot Project G-7352.2
January 24, 2022
1.0 BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The site is located 715 Kannapolis Parkway in Cabarrus County, North Carolina (Drawings 1 and 2).
The site is currently vacant, but formerly contained a residence. Two inactive underground storage
tanks (USTs) were identified near the west -central portion of the site. The last contents of the USTs
are unknown. An inactive water supply well is located on the southern portion of the site. Municipal
water is available in the vicinity of the site.
Pilot was requested by Ms. Lee Easley of Biscuitville to provide UST closure and well abandonment
services at the site.
we=914R07_T4Ikyj111L4i
The two approximate 750-gallon USTs were excavated from the site by D.H. Griffin Wrecking
Company, Inc. and transported to their facility for recycling on January 13, 2022. Pilot coordinated,
observed and documented the activities. Overlying trees were removed to allow access to the
USTs. The USTs were removed using a track -mounted excavator. The USTs were gauged prior to
removal, and the tanks were empty. The dispenser was not present, but it appeared to be
formerly located approximately four feet south of the USTs based on the piping location.
Following completion of UST removal activities, the excavation was backfilled with the overburden
and fill material imported from off -site. The USTs were located approximately four feet below
ground surface (bgs). The vegetative debris was properly disposed. A copy of the disposal manifest
for the USTs is included in the Appendix.
2.1 Soil Sampling
Following removal of the USTs, three soil samples (T-1, T-2, and D-1, Drawing 3) were collected
from approximately one foot beneath the approximate mid -point of each of the USTs. The soil
samples were collected at an approximate depth of 10 feet bgs using the bucket of the excavator.
A soil sample (D-1) was collected beneath the former dispenser location at an approximate depth
of two feet bgs using the bucket of the excavator.
Pilot personnel wore a new pair of disposable nitrile gloves during the sampling process. Each
container was labeled and placed in a cooler containing ice to maintain the samples at
approximately 4° Celsius. The soil sample was transported to Pace Analytical (Pace) in
Kernersville, North Carolina for analysis. The soil samples were analyzed for gasoline and diesel
range total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) using EPA Methods 8015/5035 and 8015/3550,
respectively. A chain of custody was maintained for the samples and is included in the Appendix.
2.2 Well abandonment
One galvanized six-inch inactive water supply well was located at the site. The inactive water
supply well at the site was abandoned by Pilot and 3D Environmental Investigations, LLC (3D), a

North Carolina licensed well driller on January 13, 2022. The well pump and piping were not
present. The well was measured to be approximately 150 feet deep. The soil surrounding the
water supply well was excavated to a depth of approximately three feet and two feet outside the
casing. The well casing was cut at approximately three feet below grade. The well was
chlorinated, filled with concrete that did not contain fly ash and capped with concrete in
accordance with the Cabarrus County Department of Public Health and State of North Carolina
requirements. A permit for the well abandonment was obtained from the Cabarrus County
Department of Public Health prior to abandonment. The excavation was backfilled with the
generated soil. A copy of the GW-30 Well Abandonment Record is included in the Appendix.
3.0 RESULTS
3.1 Soil Sample
Laboratory analysis of soil sample T-1 detected diesel range TPH at a concentration of 686 mg/kg,
which is above the NCDEQ action level of 100 mg/kg. Laboratory analysis of soil samples T-2 and
D-1 did not detect gasoline or diesel range TPH at concentrations above the laboratory detection
limits. A summary of the soil analytical results is presented in Table 1. The laboratory data sheets
are included in the Appendix.
4.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Two approximate 750-gallon USTs were removed from the site and one inactive water supply
well was properly abandoned.
Laboratory analysis of soil sample T-1 detected diesel range TPH at a concentration of 686 parts
per million (ppm) which is above the NCDEQ action level of 100 ppm. Laboratory analysis of soil
samples T-2 and D-1 did not detect gasoline or diesel range TPH at concentrations above the
laboratory reporting limits.
Based on the laboratory results, Pilot recommends that the release be reported to the North
Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) and a copy of this report be submitted.
The NCDEQ will require that a Notice of Residual Petroleum (NORP) be filed in an effort to obtain
closure with a Notice of No Further Action (NFA). The NORP should be filed prior to a real-estate
transaction occurring. If impacted soil is encountered during redevelopment activities it should
be handled in accordance with the applicable regulations.
5.0 QUALIFICATIONS OF REPORT
The activities and evaluative approaches used in this assessment are consistent with those
normally employed in assessment projects of this type. Our evaluation of site conditions has
been based on our understanding of the project information and the data obtained during our
field activities. This report was prepared for the exclusive use of Biscuitville.

QUALIFIERS
Project: Pilot Geo G-7352.2
Pace Project No.: 92582655
DEFINITIONS
DF - Dilution Factor, if reported, represents the factor applied to the reported data due to dilution of the sample aliquot.
ND - Not Detected at or above adjusted reporting limit.
TNTC - Too Numerous To Count
J - Estimated concentration above the adjusted method detection limit and below the adjusted reporting limit.
MDL -Adjusted Method Detection Limit.
PQL - Practical Quantitation Limit.
RL - Reporting Limit - The lowest concentration value that meets project requirements for quantitative data with known precision and
bias for a specific analyte in a specific matrix.
S - Surrogate
1,2-Diphenylhydrazine decomposes to and cannot be separated from Azobenzene using Method 8270. The result for each analyte is
a combined concentration.
Consistent with EPA guidelines, unrounded data are displayed and have been used to calculate % recovery and RPD values.
LCS(D) - Laboratory Control Sample (Duplicate)
MS(D) - Matrix Spike (Duplicate)
DUP - Sample Duplicate
RPD - Relative Percent Difference
NC - Not Calculable.
SG - Silica Gel - Clean -Up
U - Indicates the compound was analyzed for, but not detected.
Acid preservation may not be appropriate for 2 Chloroethylvinyl ether.
A separate vial preserved to a pH of 4-5 is recommended in SW846 Chapter 4 for the analysis of Acrolein and Acrylonitrile by EPA
Method 8260.
N-Nitrosodiphenylamine decomposes and cannot be separated from Diphenylamine using Method 8270. The result reported for
each analyte is a combined concentration.
Reported results are not rounded until the final step prior to reporting. Therefore, calculated parameters that are typically reported as
"Total" may vary slightly from the sum of the reported component parameters.
Pace Analytical is TNI accredited. Contact your Pace PM for the current list of accredited analytes.
TN -The NELAC Institute.
ANALYTE QUALIFIERS
D6 The precision between the sample and sample duplicate exceeded laboratory control limits.
N2 The lab does not hold NELAC/TNI accreditation for this parameter but other accreditations/certifications may apply. A

Trudy,
Sorry I missed you, your call showed up as "unknown". We state in the report the property is vacant and formerly
contained a residence in Section 1.0. It is our understanding that the tanks were there for personnel use as potential
"farm tanks". To our knowledge the USTs were never registered and would not be considered commercial tanks since to
our knowledge fuel was not sold, or used for company vehicles and the USTs were less than 1,100 gallons. We did not
encounter bedrock or groundwater during the removals. We state in the report that the surrounding area appears to be
provided municipal water (Section 1.0). We did not observe additional water supply wells other than the one
abandoned within 150' which should be the applicable distance based on the classification of the USTs. Attached is the
unsecured version, sorry it is company policy for our admins to secure every report so they can't be manipulated. The
version of the NORP we sent cites the commercial/industrial use only and the groundwater use restriction. If you have
additional questions, please let me know and I hope you get to feeling better. Thanks.
Sincerely,
Jason Ricks, LG

Beverly,
I hope all is well. Please see the attached UST-61. We should have the report to you on Monday and the NORP you at
some point next week. There is a property transaction pending with a tight time frame for closing. Please send the
incident number as soon as you can. Thanks and let me know if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Jason Ricks, LG
