Re: Shotwell C&D Landfill
Solid Waste Permit No. 9226-CDLF-2020
Tonnage Capacity Contingency Plan
Dear Mr. Watkins:
Shotwell Landfill, Inc. has a yearly disposal tonnage capacity of 91,250 tons as stipulated in the facility’s solid
waste permit and existing franchise with Wake County. As requested by NCDEQ, Meridian Waste maintains
a contingency plan in the event the Shotwell C&D Landfill begins to approach or reach its maximum disposal
tonnage capacity before the end of a given reporting year. In the event the disposal tonnage limit begins to be
approached, C&D waste coming from the Morrisville Transfer Station, Solid Waste Permit No. 9241-
TRANSFER-2020, will be diverted to other approved waste disposal facilities, namely the Disposal and
Recycling Services of Lunenburg facility located in Lunenburg County, Virginia, and/or the Coble’s Sandrock
C&D Landfill located in Alamance County, North Carolina. Up to approximately 200 tons per day of C&D
waste is estimated that could be diverted from the Morrisville Transfer Station, as needed.
C&D waste may also be diverted from the Capitol Waste Transfer facility, Solid Waste Permit No. 9237T-
TRANSFER-2020, and sent to the Disposal and Recycling Services of Lunenburg Facility. Up to
approximately 100 tons per day of C&D waste is estimated that could be diverted from the Capitol Waste
Transfer facility.
Based on the enclosed documents, the Morrisville Transfer Station is approved to send waste to the Disposal
and Recycling Services of Lunenburg facility. A request to add the Coble’s Sandrock C&D Landfill to the list
of approved disposal facilities for Morrisville Transfer Station has been submitted under separate cover to
NCDEQ. A request to add the Disposal and Recycling Services of Lunenburg facility to the list of approved
disposal facilities for Capitol Waste Transfer has also been submitted under separate cover to NCDEQ.
