Re: Surface Water Monitoring - Calvert Landfill (Permit # 88-03)
Dear Mr. Sagar: Q)
According to the water quality assessment for the Calvert Landfill, Galloway Creek, located to
the south of facility, serves as a discharge point for groundwater coming from most of the
landfill. Because contaminants have been detected on several occasions in monitoring well MW-
106D installed adjacent to the creek it's important to have an understanding of the water quality
of the creek downstream of the landfill.
Consequently the Solid Waste Section is requesting that during the next scheduled sampling
event only, a downstream surface water sample from Galloway Creek be collected and analyzed.
This sample may substitute for the one that usually would be taken at SMP-1, in the event it has
flowing water. It will not be necessary to sample SMP-1. It has been dry and not sampled since
the October 1999 sampling event. The creek sample should be collected downstream of the
landfill and as close to the landfill's property boundary as possible.
Thank you for your cooperation. If you have any questions, please call me at (919) 733-0692,
extension 257. -
Sincerely,
wow

Re: Galloway Creek Sampling Results
Dear Dr. Jordan:
Enclosed is a copy of the monitoring report from the October 23, 2002 sampling of Galloway
Creek in Transylvania County. A surface water sample was collected immediately downstream
of the Calvert Landfill. The sample was analyzed for the presence of metals and man-made
organic compounds that are associated with landfill leachate.
None of the metals or organic compounds analyzed for were detected.
If you have any questions about the report or sampling event, please call me at (919) 733-0692,
