Re: Request for Approval of Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) Whole Building
Filtration System Pursuant to Consent Order Paragraph 19
Dear Ms. Holman,
Pursuant to Paragraph 19 of the Consent Order, this letter serves as our formal request for
DEQ’s approval of the Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) whole building filtration system that
we plan to install. Specifically, for qualifying parties under Paragraph 19, we plan to install the
same GAC filtration system that is currently used in the Pilot Study locations. This GAC
filtration system utilizes North American Aqua WHS-400 EPA fiberglass pressure vessels
containing Calgon Filtrasorb® 600 (F600) GAC, as described in our January 11, 2018 Carbon
Implementation Plan submitted to DEQ.
Enclosed here, please find the piping and instrumentation plan for the proposed GAC
filtration system, which shows the position of the GAC vessels and associated equipment, along
with the WHS-400 and F600 data sheets. If we determine that future modifications to the GAC
filtration system design may further improve performance, we will send a letter with supporting
documentation to you requesting approval for the design modification.
We would appreciate receiving your approval of our proposed GAC whole building
filtration system as soon as possible, so that we may proceed with installation under the
Consent Order.
If you have any questions or need further information, please let me know.
Sincerely,
Brian D. Long
