Dear Ms. Hughes, The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) received the Barrier Wall and Groundwater Extraction System 60% Design Report on August 13, 2021. This report was prepared pursuant to Paragraph 3.b in the Addendum to Consent Order Paragraph 12 which
is incorporated into the terms of the Consent Order between Chemours, DEQ and Cape Fear River Watch (CFRW). DEQ hereby provides a conditional approval of the Barrier Wall and Groundwater
Extraction System 60% Design Report with specific comments and questions that shall be
addressed by Chemours within forty-five days. The conditional approval allows Chemours to move forward with the 90% design for the barrier wall and extraction system. If Chemours wishes to clarify any of these comments or does not believe it will be able to address them in the specified timeframe, it should contact DEQ as soon as possible to discuss the issue and to avoid
delay in the final approval process.
