The original request from October 9, 2006 was prepared using mapping from approximately 1995. The plans have now been updated using aerial topographic information obtained from the NC DOT GIS web site from a flight conducted on September 9, 2006. The attached drawings have been updated to illustrate how the additional capacity may be achieved without modifying the slopes, drainage patterns or operations of the existing facility. In addition to the original submittal, an approximate grading line has been established to show the approximate waste contours as of 7/1/08 when the new C&D landfill regulations become effective fort he facility. The County desires to extend the useful life of this facility as long as practical to allow time to pursue permitting a new C&D landfill on site. This permitting process will begin shortly and will include as a part of the permitting process, the submittal of an amended landfill application that is in accordance with the new regulations. Current projections show the vertical expansion providing enough landfill space to meet the County's needs until October 2010. Please feel free to call meat (336) 323-0092 for additional information. Thank you for your assistance in this matter and we look forward to working with you on this project. Sincerely, JOYCE ENGINEE > ) G, INC. l Evan Andrews, P.E. Landfill gas was detected above the lower explosive limit (LEL) in gas probe GP-2. The concentrations detected are similar to those detected during previous events. GP-2 is located in an area with a close proximity to waste; therefore, the detection of methane gas is not unexpected. Methane was not detected in any of the remaining site landfill gas monitoring points and probes during this field event. The two gas probes that were installed adjacent to the Kirksey Drive Landfill in June 2001 were also monitored for the presence of landfill gas on November 28, 2007. There were no detections. of methane in either probe during this event. The landfill gas monitoring logs for each site are attached.
