Groundwater Monitoring Plan Addendum

Dear Ms. Drummond:
On behalf of Burke County, Joyce Engineering, Inc. (JEI) is submitting this
addendum to the Groundwater Monitoring Plan for Johns River Waste Management
Facility. During a meeting with the Solid Waste Section (SWS) on March 3, 2005, JEI
proposed to replace background well MW-9 with well MW-17 and to incorporate
downgradient wells MW-16S and MW-16D into the compliance monitoring network for
the facility. Wells MW-165, MW-16D, and MW-17 have been sampled since March
1999 as part of a water quality assessment. In a letter dated August 1, 2005, the SWS
approved the proposal and requested that a revision to the facility's sampling plan be
submitted to the SWS. This correspondence is being submitted to comply with that
request.
Groundwater at Johns River Waste Management Facility is currently being
monitored in accordance with the facility's approved Transition Plan, originally
submitted in April 1994. The purpose of this correspondence is to document the
modification of the compliance monitoring network by removing MW-9 and
incorporating MW-165, MW-16D, and MW-17. Therefore, the groundwater compliance
monitoring network will now consist of one background monitoring well (MW-17) and
six downgradient monitoring wells (MW-10, MW-11, MW-12, MW-13, MW-165, and
MW-16D). Monitoring well MW-9 will no longer be sampled and will be abandoned.
The first groundwater sampling event that will incorporate these changes will occur in
November 2005. A revised Site Plan Map showing the modified compliance monitoring
network is enclosed.
