Dear Mr. Patterson,
This letter is to confirm our telephone conversation concerning
covering waste that has become partially exposed by weather at the
old Haywood County Landfill at Francis Farm Road.
We agreed and had planned to have at least sic (6) inches of cover
over the entire site by April 15th. Unfortunately it has rained
practically every other day for the last two weeks. We are
requesting another two weeks time to complete the job. We have
talked to our contractor and explained the urgency of the
situation and he is anxious to complete the covering just as soon
as his trucks can get in and out of the site.
We appreciate the spirit of cooperation and will proceed with
haste to finish the task.

Re: Landfill Roofing Samples
Dear Mr. Burris:
Local Office
P. O. Box 6157
Chattanooga, TN 37401
Last week samples were taken at your request of roofing fragments spread on the service road of the old
landfill above the school bus garage, for analysis of asbestos content. The laboratory report is enclosed
herewith, showing asbestos found in three of the twenty-six samples submitted.
Various types of roofing shingles and felts have been ground into fragments a few square inches in size
and spread over the service road, which will subsequently be covered with gravel. Roofing fragments were
collected at random over the entire area with the intention of representing the different kinds and locations
of materials present. Samples included two fragments of cement board shingles, fifteen samples of various
roofing felts, and nine samples of various asphalt shingles. There did not appear to be much, if any, built-
up roofing in the materials seen.
The two cement board shingles contained asbestos, as is invariably the case in our experience, and one
asphalt shingle contained asbestos. No asbestos was found in the other samples.
Thank you for contacting NEO Corporation for assistance in this matter. Please feel free to call me should
you have questions or need further information.
