RE: Project 84184
McDowell County Landfill
Dear Keith:
In reference to the McDowell
please find attached a sketch which
the site on January 18, 1985.
TWELVE BROAD STREET
ASHEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA 28801-4892
704/258-2517
County Landfill and its new construction,
shows our findings on our firm's visit to
We inspected the construction work of the dike and reviewed the borrow
areas that the County is wanting to use for daily and final cover and construction
of the dike. Based on field review and conservative estimates we developed the
following opinions.
Amount needed
for construction of dike
10,000
cu. yd.
Amount needed
for daily cover
27,000
cu. yd.
Amount needed
for final cover
33,500
cu. yd.
Utilization of
Areas A, B, C (borrow)
80,000
cu. yd.
It is our opinion that there is more than enough borrow material to satisfy
what the County would need for the implementation of the final phase of this
landfill.
We also reviewed the drainage and erosion control during operation of this
phase and the landfill personnel will strive to make sure that all guidelines will
be met.
We feel that, if the County is allowed to implement the final phase as
shown on the attached sketch, it will give them time to pursue another landfill site.
