Summary: Single story, approximately 300,000 ft2, flat-pack furniture manufacturing
facility. On-site to further investigate the property in relation to Sawdust building, and
potential excavated materials on employee parking lot portion of site. Sawdust collection
building was relatively recently constructed and is located just southwestern corner of
main building.

Summary: Soil, asphalt, and concrete stockpiles were identified on the subject property (refer to
photos below). Additional follow up will be conducted to evaluate the possibility of a violation
regarding these stockpiles. A hand-held XRF analyzer was used to record arsenic, lead and nickel
readings. There were no arsenic detections and reading for lead ranged from below the Limit of
Detection (LOD) to 22.95 ppm. Nickel reading ranged from below the LOD to 122.53 ppm. There are
error factors for all XRF readings, and arsenic error ranged from 4.71 to 5.89 ppm, lead error ranged
from 4.58 to 7.35 ppm, while Nickel error ranges were from 27.03 to 42.92 ppm. Please see Current

Summary: Monitoring wells present based on 8/31/2021 Site Inspection. Did not observe
monitoring wells during this re-inspection.

Although soil piles located on southwestern portion of property can be accessed through the
employee parking lot, the risk of public exposure appears limited based on its location in a
currently underused portion of the property, and field measurements taken using an XRF hand-
held analyzer. There is the potential for soil run-off onto the parking lot to be spread by vehicle
traffic however.

A soil sample was collected during the Site Inspection and submitted to Pace Analytical for
analysis of arsenic, barium, chromium lead and nickel via laboratory method 6010D. Laboratory
analysis indicated that these compounds did not exceed their corresponding PSRG’s. Please note
the Project Name on the Report of Analysis is mistakenly listed as “Canal” instead of “Canac” on
the laboratory analysis report which is attached.

Additional follow up and evaluation will be requested by DEQ Brownfields to document, assess
the risk and address the stockpiles identified.

A reinspection of the Brownfields property was performed based on the presence of a
sawdust collection building observed during August 31, 2021, site inspection, and
subsequent photograph provided by the plant Environmental Manager that appeared to
show a concrete stockpile on the southwest corner of the property.

The site was reinspected on September 28, 2021, to take a closer look at these features.
Mr. Brian Polk with DEQ helped conduct the reinspection and brought with him a drone,
portable XRF analyzer, and soil sampling equipment that were used during the
reinspection.
