This quarterly progress report details the work and activities undertaken and completed pursuant to the Consent Order and Addendum for the period from July 1, 2020 to September 30, 2020. During the third quarter of 2020, Chemours continued its comprehensive work to implement the projects set forth in the Consent Order. And, as you know, on August 13, 2020, Chemours signed the Addendum to Consent Order Paragraph 12, and Chemours proceeded with Addendum implementation activities during the third quarter while the Addendum was pending the public comment and Court review process, prior to its entry by the Court on October 12, 2020. Significant actions undertaken during this quarterly reporting period include: · Chemours continued to operate its thermal oxidizer facility, which is destroying over 99.99% of all PFAS air emissions routed to it. · All of Chemours’s process wastewater continues to be captured and safely disposed of off-site. · Significant work continues to reduce the remaining PFAS loadings from surface water and groundwater to the Cape Fear River, pursuant to both the Consent Order and Addendum. On September 30, 2020, following issuance of a NPDES permit by DEQ on September 18, 2020, Chemours began operation of a capture and treatment system for the Old Outfall. During the third quarter, Chemours also performed mass loading sampling, submitted mass loading protocols and modeling results, and submitted plans related to the forthcoming seep remediation systems and stormwater treatment system. 2 · Chemours continues to provide replacement drinking water supplies to qualifying residences and other private well users. Approximately 2500 residences are receiving bottled water, and whole building or under sink filtration systems have been installed at over 1200 residences. We are focused and intent on ensuring that the implementation of the Consent Order and Addendum continues to proceed in the same manner. As always, if you have any questions or need any additional information concerning this report, or the Consent Order implementation generally, please contact me at Brian.D.Long@chemours.com.
