Although there were no recent spills during this visit there is evidence that overflow spills of septage are occurring on a semi regular basis from the two permitted septage detention tanks #101 & #102. Although any septage spill is contained within the concrete containment area this does not authorize LES to allow the storage tanks to overflow during normal operation. Corrective actions shall be taken by LES to install alarms or other adequate measures & procedural changes to prevent any overflow spills from occurring. OBSERVED VIOLATIONS: SEE COMMENTS ABOVE SEE BACK OF PAGE FACILITY COMPLIANCE INSPECTION REPORT Division of Waste Management Solid Waste Section Page 2 of 2 ADDITIONAL COMMENTS 1. The two permitted septage tanks (#101 & #102) appear structurally sound and are located with a concrete containment area. The approved setbacks are being met. The required “No Trespassing” sign is posted at the gate entrance and the access road is adequate. The required 5 foot cleared radius (free of excess vegetation or debris) is present around the facility. 2. Discussed the permit renewal underway at this time. Reviewed the treatment logs & the required information to be maintained – discussed missing info & gave Mr. Mayberry an example treatment log which he indicated would be used going forward to ensure that the required info was recorded accurately.
