DATE AND TIME OF FIRE: 06/29/2021
HOW WAS THE FIRE REPORTED AND BY WHOM:
@ 2:00 AM
Operator hauling trailer noticed smoke coming from tire area after they had exited the facility on the way to staging yard at the Sampson County Landfill. The
operator turned around and returned to the City of Durham WD&RC. The operator discovered that the brakes/tire area was close to igniting so he called DFD. Once
on the scene_ DFD did find fire around the tire/hrake area. of the axle of the trailer_ Thev extinmiished the fire and -naked around the MSW near where the "hnt -not"
LIST ACTIONS TAKEN:
Smoking around tires/brakes notice while in transit so load was returned to facility. DFD was called and extinguished fire around the brake/tire area and MSW was
soaked to prevent the possibility of flare up.

WHAT WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE:
Trailer brakes or possibly tire/tire berring issue. Mechanical failure for certain
DESCRIBE AREA, TYPE, AND AMOUNT OF WASTE INVOLVED:
The trailer was extinguished by DFD at the City of Durham's WD&RC trailer staging yard. At no time was the MSW material on fire. DFD did remove around
150-200 pounds of MSW out of the trailer when they opened the back door to get a better area to soak the interior down. This material was cleaned up off the ground
and reloaded into another empty trailer by the contractor.
WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN DONE TO PREVENT THIS FIRE:
unsure at tis time as it was a mechanical issue and not caused by the MSW
