6. The tire collection area was observed. A load of tires had been shipped the previous morning and only a few were in the
trailer. The tires are taken to US Tire in Concord, NC.
7. The white goods area is located outdoors next to the main building. Freon is removed by Swain County staff and then
marked with an "X" with spray paint. They are then taken to the metal pile.
8. Other materials recycled are plastic, pallets, empty propane tanks, aluminum cans, steel cans, glass, cardboard, metal
windows/doors, and newspaper. These are all collected in separate containers or areas. Bailers are used for cardboard,
aluminum and newspapers. A new area for used oil filters was in use.
9. Used batteries were stored on a pallet in an upright position outdoors.
10. There is an above ground tank that receives used oil. The tank is enclosed in a low block retaining wall and covered with a
shed. The area surrounding the tank was very tidy and very well organized.
