It is recommended that this activity be noted in the Operations Plan for the transfer station during the next revision process. During the 06/23/09 audit, the area under this roll -off was gathering debris. This area needs to be cleaned and maintained. 4. The tipping floor and transfer trailer loading area had been recently washed/cleaned on both audit dates and the windblown materials were minimal. 5. During the 06/23/09 audit, the baler was in operation. 6. Recycled goods are contained in a separate building on site, in addition to three external areas (clear glass, colored glass, and gypsum). The recycling facility appeared to be in good condition and was being managed well. During the 06/23/09 audit the crushed glass in the external concrete bin area was draining liquids onto the paved surface. This drainage leads to a storm water drain (not a controlled septage drain). Discussed this with S. King. Future plans for the facility include a roof over this storage area (including the gypsum bin) in order to minimize runoff. 7. Facility normally averages 200 tons/day of waste (transferred to White Oak MSWLF). Current (2009) averages are down to approximately 130 tons/day. 8. Fire prevention/controls: training scheduled for 7/09, S. King stated that equipment is checked quarterly. It was noted during the 06/23/09 audit that a fire extinguisher was missing from the marked location, in the corner of the MRF containing the batteries, oils, and other potentially flammable materials. The access to this extinguisher is restricted by the pallet of batteries. It is recommended that this extinguisher be replaced/checked immediately and the access to the extinguisher be improved.
