ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
1) This facility consists of thirteen (13) above ground steel tanks for with a total capacity of 190,000 gallons
for the storage of domestic septage, grease trap pumpings, portable toilet waste, and
commercial/industrial septage. This facility dewaters the septage to separate the solids from the liquid.
The liquid is land applied on septage land application site, SLAS-98-08. The solids are composted.
2) “No Trespassing” signage present along access roads to the facility.
3) The access road to the detention facility was in good shape.
4) Tank accessible for inspection. No debris or vegetation blocking the tank from being inspected as per
Rule 15A NCAC 13B .0838(i).
5) Most of the steel tanks appeared to be structurally sound. Daniel said that tank # 7 is no longer in use
and that they want to replace the tank. Replacing a tank with a like tank does not require a permit
modification however, the tank must be inspected prior to use. If a different type (size, make, etc.) of
tank is going to be used to replace tank # 7 then, an application for permit modification must be
submitted. Some rusting noticed at the bottom of tank #2 which may indicate a leak. Please monitor
the tanks for possible leaks.
6) Septage transfers to and from the facility appear to comply with the Septage Rules. No septage spills
noticed.
7) No odor or vector issues noticed.
8) No issues noticed with setback distances.
9) Records not checked.
