Pearson Subject: March 31, 1989 Proposed Remediation Plan Greensboro Junction Tank Farm, Guilford County North Carolina, Incident No. 3893 Dear Mr. Pearson: I have reviewed your proposed plan of action which was received by our office on April 3, 1989. Your proposal has been found to be generally acceptable. Implementation of this remedial activity may proceed following these conditions: 1) The vertical ex -Cent of soil contamination must be determined and presented in the first quarterly sampling report. 2) Soil samples may be analyzed utilizing EPA Method 418.1 plus the Purge & Trap Method using the GC procedure with PID detection. This is discussed in EPA SW-846, Method 5030. This will cover the volatiles which are lost during sample collection and laboratory preparation. 3) Submit the above information to this office within 30 days of the quarterly sampling period. 4) The effectiveness of this plan of action will be determined after reviewing three quarterly reports. If these sampling reports indicate that this program has been successful, it may proceed unchanged. However, if the quarterly reports indicate that reduction in petroleum hydrocarbons has not decreased, a more active form of remediation will be required. 8025 North Point Boulevard, Suite 100, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27106-3295 • Telephone 919-761-2351 An Equal Opportunity Affirmative Action Employer Mr. D.V.
