Dear Mr. Brown:
This correspondence replaces the original approval for beneficial reuse of Calcarb granted on
March 4, 1992. Based on ilia analytical data submitted on February 7, 1992, Calcarb may be
classified as "unrestricted grade" for marketing purposes in accordance with the maximum allowable
chemical characteristics listed in 15A NCAC 13B .1407 (4)(o)(ii).
Champion should initiate routine sampling and analysis of the Calcarb product to ensure that
the concentrations of chemical constituents remain below the above -referenced maximum
characteristics. Champion should notify the Section of any process changes that may affect the
product or any significant changes in chemical properties of Calcarb.
.For applications where repeated use of Calcarb can be expected, such as in agricultural
applications, the maximum accumulation of heavy metal applied to the soils shall be as designated in
15A NCAC 13B .1407 (5).

SUBJECT: Closure Inspection
Champion Landfill (#44-01), Haywood Co.
On August 19, 1993, I conducted a closure inspection at Cham ion Landfill (Permit
No. 44-01) located off of State Road 1613 near Canton, North CarolinI( aywood County).
The inspection verified that the landfill area(s) had been covered with at least two feet of soil
and that these area(s) were stable and properly drained.
I am attaching a map of the landfill area indicating soil boring locations.
Please advise if further information is needed concerning this matter.
