Buncombe County Landfill - C&D Landfill Expansion
Request to Re -Locate Groundwater and Landfill Gas Monitoring Wells
Dear Ms. Drummond:
In an effort to expand the existing C&D landfill, SCS Engineers, PC (SCS), on behalf of Buncombe
County, hereby submits this request to re -locate two groundwater monitoring wells (MW-17 and MW-
17D) and one landfill gas monitoring well (M-12). The relocation of this well cluster will help
maximize C&D landfill airspace volume, minimize landfill operational risks due to filling sequences
and eliminates the risk of potential well cluster damage in its current location due to filling
operations. The last benefit to the relocation is due to the current cluster location at the toe of next
landfill expansion slope. The existing and proposed location of the new well cluster are shown on the
attached Figure 1.
The monitoring wells will be abandoned in accordance with 15A NCAC 02C (.0113) standards for
abandonment. The monitoring wells will be abandoned by over -drilling with grouting of open
boreholes. The wells will be re -installed at the approved location and constructed in a similar
manner to the original installations.
