HomeMy WebLinkAbout3507_PRTI_CA_20200520As requested, on May 20, 2020 we sent surface water samples for analysis at Con -Test Analytical Laboratory (East Longmeadow, MA, NC DEQ Certification #652). Samples were collected according to the protocol provided by Con -Test and shipped overnight to the laboratory per their specifications. Test samples were collected from the outflow stream at the westernmost point of the property and control samples from the adjacent property upstream from any outflows from this facility. The following tests were performed by Con -Test: • Total Metals -- EPA Method 6020E • Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH) -- Method 8270E • Water Hardness —Calculation 6010 • Hexavalent Chromium — Method 7196A • Trivalent Chromium — Determined by Calculation The results for the PAH test were: Table 1: PAH Analysis May 20, 2020 Assay Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons Method 8270 NC In -Stream Target Values for Waters All Waters (Class C) Adjacent PropertySurface • • 1 1 Notes Acenaphthene 60 ug/L <0.034 ug/L 0.043 ug/L Acenaphthylene NA <0.036 ug/L 0.054 ug/L Anthracene 0.05 ug/L <0.036 ug/L 0.044 ug/L Benzo(a)anthrace ne 0.1 ug/L <0.016 ug/L 0.086 ug/L Benzo(a)pyrene 0.05 ug/L <0.10 ug/L 0.079 ug/L Benzo(b)fluorathene NA <0.015 ug/L 0.16 ug/L Benzo(g,h,i)perylene NA <0.018 ug/L 0.085 ug/L Benzo(k)fluoranthene NA <0.012 ug/L 0.05 ug/L 2-Chloronapththalene 110 ug/L <0.46 ug/L <0.45 ug/L Chrysene NA <0.015 ug/L 0.12 ug/L Di benz(a,h)anthrace ne 5 ug/L <0.017 ug/L 0.019 ug/L Fluoranthene 0.11 ug/L <0.026 ug/L 1.2 up Fluorene 30 ug/L <0.035 ug/L 0.052 ug/L Indeno(1,2,3-cd)pyre ne NA <0.018 ug/L 0.081 ug/L 2-Methyl naphthalene 85 ug/L <0.063 ug/L <0.062 ug/L 1-Methyl naphthalene 450 ug/L <0.051 ug/L <0.50 ug/L Naphthalene 12 ug/L <0.26 ug/L <0.26 ug/L Phenanthrene 0.7 ug/L <0.031 ug/L 0.088 ug/L Pyrene NA 0.028 ug/L 0.19 ug/L Two of the analytes from the test sample, Benzo(a)pyrene and Fluoranthene, were slightly higher than the NC Target Values for Surface Water. Several of the analytes, as denoted by the asterisks, are estimated concentrations because they were detected but below the Reporting Limit of the protocol. Both Benzo(a)pyrene and Fluoranthene are included in this group. The metals analysis is below. Per the information provided by you in the file Standards Table_06102019, metals standards for surface water are variable based on the hardness of the water. Hardness assays were performed on both the control and the test samples. The results were used to calculated the standards for each metal below (see pink cells). For copper, both the control sample and the test sample have values above the standard. This is consistent with previous data collected. Zinc, while above the standard, is markedly lower than the concentrations reported prior to the adjustments we have made to the way material is processed onsite. December and January values for the stream were 3500 ug/L and 3400 ug/L respectively (see Table 3). The most recent sample was 680 ug/L, indicating the changes are having a significant impact. It should also be noted that cadmium was detected, but below the Reporting Limit of the assay and the concentration provided was estimated by the lab. Table 3: PRTI Inc.
