In the early years of the business delivery trucks were refueled from a 1,000-gallon gasoline UST located between two wings of the main plant building. The UST was never registered and the tank was no longer in use sometime prior to 1963. The tank was later rediscovered and a release determined during 1998 closure of the tank with detection of TPH gasoline and diesel range concentrations above the action limits in one of the 2 soil borings. Fueling operations were moved to a separate garage property located east of the plant at the corner of West and Tucker Streets (now 401 N West St). According to the Permits and Inspection Branch (PIB), this facility, with a functional address of 500 Glenwood Ave and a facility ID # of 0-03520, had 1-10,000-gallon gasoline, 1-12,000 gallon gasoline, 1-10,000 gallon diesel and 1-12,000-gallon diesel UST installed during the period 1976-1982 and then removed during the period of 1990-1994. Minor leaks were reported but no incident was determined. A Phase I LSA is needed for the project. Obtain Right of Access agreement for the former service garage on the adjacent property (401 N West St); Complete a Federal/State-Lead Monitoring Report that includes: - Installation of a 2" Type II monitoring well to approximately 35 ft - Collection of soil samples every 5 ft in the vadose zone during installation of the monitoring well (up to 5 soil samples) for analyses by EPA method 8260B and MADEP VPH. - Collection of 1 groundwater sample (MW-1) for analyses by methods 6200B + MTBE, IPE, and EDB, MADEP VPH and lead analysis; - Complete a receptor survey Results of the LSA and subsequent ranking will be used to develop a long term plan for the site.
